Hello, Kansas city. Welcome back to the Bespoke Refinement Podcast. We are so happy to have you guys on.
We just love coming on here every week and talking about cars and detailing and all things, Kansas city and all things, Kansas city car detailing. So we are so pumped. Well, guys, today we are going to be talking about the vehicle that I just finished working on.
It was a 2023 Ford Maverick finished in cinnamon orange. And this customer had a final wrap installed on this vehicle before the Ferrari rally that we went on recently. And it was wrapped Rosso Corsa red.
So to match the Ferrari red color and put decals on it, you know, so the car was covered in decals. So he wanted the decals removed and a quick polish done on this wrap to try to get the life brought back to it. That was what he wanted done.
And when I showed up at his house, initially what I could see was the wrap actually had a foggy haze to it. And that’s a telltale sign on a new wrap that the person who had wrapped it must have installed a ceramic coating on the wrap and that ceramic coating was blocking the coatings ability to self heal. So that’s why it was getting all foggy because it was blocking the coatings or the wraps ability to re-moisturize itself and take in moisture to get that gloss effect.
What a lot of people don’t know about wraps is they are self healing. So they actually have the ability, let’s say you scratch it and you park it in the sun, UV rays will cause that wrap to expand. And then if you pull it inside of a cold area or cooler area, let it come back down and once it contracts, it essentially is fixed.
Scratches are fixed. And so when you ceramic coat it, it takes that ability away to re-moisturize itself and self heal. So talk to the owner, you know, he’s like, you’re the only person that ceramic coats my vehicles.
So the guy who put the wrap on must have ceramic coated it or put some sort of SiO2 hydrophobic coating on it. So I began by doing an alcohol wipe on the entire truck. Well, actually that’s not true.
First I did a strip wash. So I strip washed the whole thing, got rid of any top layer of the coating. And then obviously, you know, I got rid of dirt grime and all of that.
And that’s something that comes with all of our Kansas City car detailing packages, we make sure to remove the road grime from the outside of the paint, the exterior of it. And so then after we got the car washed and exterior cleaned thoroughly, pulled it inside, one big benefit to hand washing a vehicle with a wrap that you’re going to maintenance. And the reason why I recommend doing a thorough hand wash versus just, you know, detail spray wipe down is when you do a full wash, you know, you’re taking your brushes to all the cracks and crevices and because any of our Kansas City car detailing packages, even if we’re doing a quick wash, we still brush the car down thoroughly.
So those are things that we do just to make sure that the car is clean. But also when you’re using that brush to be able to clean all the nooks and crannies, you can find any parts of the wraps that are maybe peeling away or maybe a corner has lifted, it kind of gives you that chance to actually look at the, at the wrap. So, um, after we did the exterior wash, pulled it inside, gave it a quick interior detail just to make sure that, you know, when the customer gets the vehicle, um, back, they, they feel like they’ve gotten more of a new vehicle than just, you know, the exterior done.
You know, they’re not getting in a, in a dirty vehicle. So we did an interior detail on this Maverick and then, uh, we did several alcohol wipe downs on it. Um, I was testing different isopropanol alcohol percentage, you know, water to alcohol dilution, just because you always want to make sure that you’re not over diluting the alcohol, but also not under diluting it.
You know, you want to make sure that you have enough alcohol that, um, you, uh, you’re, you’re actually doing, doing the job and with any Kansas city car detailing package, we do make sure that we are diluting all of our chemicals thoroughly, um, or adding extra strength in to make sure that they are optimal for detailing use. After we got done doing the, um, alcohol wipe down on it and found the perfect dilution level that we wanted, we then began to put different hybrids of polishes and pads together till we could find a hybrid and also a speed that we liked, you know, like paint, um, wraps are also very different or what material are they using, how is it applied? You know, there’s, there, there’s all these different nuances to vinyl wraps. So you want to make sure that you test the right pad compound hybrid, so you know what you’re doing.
And with any bespoke refinement detail, you can be rest assured that we make sure that we find the right pad compound hybrid after that, we began polishing the vehicle and we did a very thorough polish job on this Ford Maverick. We wanted to make sure that it received the ultimate level of Kansas City Car Detailing care. And we’re confident that it did.
We are very confident that it did receive, um, a thorough Kansas City Car Detailing vinyl wrap polish. So, um, after we got done polishing this Ford Maverick and wiping all of the polish down, we did then, we then did a light water to alcohol, uh, wipe down. That was to remove any polish excess, but also, uh, you didn’t want it to, if you take too much polish off of the wrap, then it’s going to look dull again.
So you don’t want to, you don’t want to remove all of the, uh, polish, just the excess, so it’s not all smeary and gross. After we did that, we then applied a one year ceramic sealant that is specifically designed for clear bra and vinyl wraps. This is to ensure that in the future with this vehicle, as it is detailed, as it is worked on, um, even as it’s used, um, the wrap gets to achieve its ultimate, ultimate life longevity.
Um, and also looks really good. You know, it’s still remains glossy. It still looks clean and shiny through, through the years.
