Hello, Kansas City. Welcome back to the Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast, the premier Kansas City car detailing podcast. Today, we have with us Thomas Thill, the founder and truly a man who just absolutely loves cars.

Thank you so much for joining us and for sharing your wisdom. Well, thank you so much for having me on. You know, I gotta tell you, nothing makes me more passionate than talking about Kansas City car detailing and, you know, what we offer and, you know, some of the different packages that we offer and are tailor-made to work for different customers.

So I’m so thankful I’m on today. One of, I think, the most fun things about your business is just the variety of things that, one, that you offer, but also the cars that you get to work on. And it’s not even just cars because you’ve worked on a variety of vehicles.

What are some different things that you’ve worked on? You know, I’ve worked on everything from minivans and work trucks to full race cars that aren’t even street legal and private jets and million-dollar motor coaches and hypercars, supercars. Really, at this point, I’ve worked on every category of vehicle. Boats, I’ve worked on everything.

Do you have a preference for vehicles? Do you have something that you love working on the most? I love working on supercars, but I really enjoy doing boats because the paint on all boats corrects out the same and you don’t have to do a bunch of trial and error to find the best pad, compound, polish, pad, hybrid. They all correct out exactly the same. So you just start on the boat and you don’t run into as many roadblocks as you do a hand-painted car or a jet or RV, so.

Well, one thing I feel like you run into somewhat is people wanting to work on the car themselves. They wanna paint correct themselves, things don’t go well, or maybe they had some work on it that’s just kind of getting into it and now you’re having to fix the issues that they made while in the process of paint correcting or even detailers, like they use products on it that, oh my goodness, now the leather doesn’t look the same anymore. Or they even go through an automatic car wash and they didn’t know that it damaged the car and damaged the paint every time they went through this wash.

Can you tell us a little bit about just some stories and things you’ve experienced when people try to do it themselves? Oh, absolutely. So let’s start with interiors. One of the biggest misconceptions about interior detailing is you hear a lot of people use the term Armor All.

I’m gonna Armor All my interior. And Armor All has done a great job at branding a product that everyone knows. It’s a brand name, but everyone says, I’m gonna Armor All my interior.
When I came to your parents’ house, your dad had on his little detailing rack Armor All. And in about every garage I’ve ever worked in, they have Armor All. The thing with Armor All is it creates this very unnatural shine to the interior trim, the leather and all the other little interior
pieces, but it’s actually made out of sheep fat.

And sheep fat does create a very brilliant shine on the interior, but over time it begins to dry out. And because Armor All is so strong and it works itself into the pores of the leather and the plastic and the trim, it’ll begin to dry out and over time crack the interior. So like your dash will crack once it gets hot.

Your leather seats can begin to crack once they get hot in the summer sun. So I use products that rather than being oil-based or water-based on the interior, and that gives it a lot more of a natural shine, natural finish from how it looks from the manufacturer. And it also acts as a protectant so it doesn’t cause any cracking, but rather prevents cracking.

So that’s one of the many benefits of having us perform our Kansas City car detailing services is we don’t use harmful products on the interior, even the most popular ones. As far as engine cleaning, a lot of people, whenever they clean an engine bay, they’ll pressure wash the engine down. They’ll spray degreasers all over the engine.

They’ll go over it with a brush and then they’ll pressure wash it off. It’s definitely the most effective way to do it, but there’s so many electrical hookups and electrical connections on an engine bay, especially in newer cars, that you run such a huge risk of causing an electrical issue with pressure washing the entire engine bay. So when we do an engine bay, we do utilize a pressure washer and we do utilize brushes, but we make sure to inspect the entire interior, or excuse me, entire engine bay of all electrical connections and electrical grounds before we ever begin washing it to ensure that we don’t cause any electrical failures while working on the engine bay.

And then finally, paint correction. Paint correction’s a big one. You hear a lot of these guys talking about rubbing compound on their paint and trying to remove deep scratches and remove swirl marks, and most guys try to do it by hand.

And you cannot make a paint job look as good polishing it by hand as you can performing a true paint correction. So we use several different pads, polishes, and polishers to ensure that when we’re doing a Kansas City Auto Detailing paint correction, we get the best shine, the deepest shine, and the deepest amount of gloss in your paint to create a long-term finish that doesn’t deteriorate over time. So having Bespoke Refinement perform any Kansas City car detailing service on your vehicle is a way better option than performing it yourself because maybe you don’t know the right techniques, you don’t know the right product to use and the right equipment to use, and that can cause temporary damage and sometimes permanent damage to your vehicle.

So if somebody was looking to get a Kansas City car detailing service done, if they’re looking to get the guard detailed and they didn’t know where to even start, what would be something they would need to know when they get on the phone with you? The first thing that you would need to know is what services are you wanting performed and what are some of the things about your vehicle that you don’t like that you’re wanting changed? So do you have stains in the interior? Do you have etchings or stains on the exterior in the clear coat? Do you have swirls in the paint?

Do you have deep scratches in the paint? Do you have any protection on the paint? I mean, we offer so many different Kansas City car detailing services that the best way to know what services you need performed are to just give us a call and we can walk you through what services you would need performed from us. So if they wanted to get a hold of you, what is the best way to get Thomas Till on the phone?
