Can you tell them a little bit about what is different today versus the last few weeks here that you’ve kind of like slowly been sitting inside? It’s above freezing. It’s above freezing. And for car detailers, is that kind of a big deal? It’s a huge deal, actually.
Because when there’s snow on the ground, and there’s salt everywhere, and no one wants to have their car detailed… And you’re working on freezing cold Clear Coat Restoration Kansas City garages. And working in shops that don’t really have the heat source that you want can be… Yes, and your fingers have been frozen. Yes, yes. So now that it is literally… It got to 60 degrees today.

Now, what is polishing? When would you need to use polishing? And how is that different from, like, a wax? Well, waxing a vehicle is putting a slick substance on the surface that just provides protection. Polishing is actually rehydrating the surface of the, whether we’re doing a clear coated vehicle or just a single stage painted vehicle, you’re rehydrating the finish after it’s been dried out. So, you know, with certainly, like, the environments that we’ve been in over the last couple of weeks, last couple of months, with all the road salts and all the snow, your clear coat is very dry.
So, polishing the paint, it’s going to rehydrate the finish, it’s going to make it look glossier, shinier, and it’s really good for it. It’s good to have your vehicle polished every year, in my opinion. So, what is the process for getting a car polished? Like, let’s say someone wants to get it polished, do they need to let it set for a certain amount of time? Is it something that’s, like, every, you know, six months, every month? What’s the price? Are there different kinds of polishing? Like, all the longevity to it? No, so it’s basically the same process all around.
You can have it done once a quarter. You can have it done once a year. When I had my C6, Z06, I did it once every two weeks.
Oh, wow. Because I’m me. Do you take that good care of your current daily driver? No.
No. But I’ve had a lot of people tell me in the past that with cars that I’ve owned, like super cars that I’ve owned, I’m more meticulous with my clients’ cars than I am with my own cars. Which is actually truthful.
Like, even with, like, my own fun cars, like, I know what level of perfection suits me. But I know that whenever I’m doing someone else’s car, I want to make it as perfect as possible because you don’t know how they’re going to treat it when you leave. So you want to, like, remove any defect you can to mitigate any defect that’s added back onto it later on.

You want to remove any grease, any road salt, contamination in the paint as possible before performing any of these services.

So it just depends on whatever goals you’re looking to achieve. You know, I have clients who have race cars that, you know, they want them to look good, but they know that they’re going to get scratched because they’re race cars, so they’re not worried about it looking perfect.

If somebody does have the car clear rod, can you polish it later? You can, depending on the condition of the clear rod. I had a guy bring me a Jaguar XJ220, which if you know cars, you’re jealous that I even got to touch one of those. Very sweet.
It had the original clear bra on it from Jaguar, and it was cracked. I tried fixing it, but it was beyond repair. And so what’s unfortunate about that is because the clear bra wasn’t maintained, and it wasn’t hydrated, it dried to the paint of the car, meaning when they pull it off, it’s going to pull the paint off.
So the car is going to have to be completely repainted. Oh wow. So I do recommend maintaining the clear bra annually, especially if you have a full body clear bra performed on the car.
