Now, color correction is somewhat similar to paint correction. We’re going to dive more into that and what all this could do to completely transform your color correction Kansas City car. And today we have with us the one and only Thomas Thill.
Thank you so much for joining us and sharing with us your astounding wisdom. Thank you so much for having me on. I just love coming on here every week and talking about Kansas City color correction and all of the things that we can do to make collector cars and even daily drivers look better than they did when they left the showroom floor.
Now, tell us a little bit about what you really enjoy about color correction in Kansas City? Why does that bring you so much joy and excitement? So, number one, I’m a car guy. Like hardcore. You are? It’s a problem.
You know those videos that you see on TikTok, you see like Facebook reels of like some guys do these transformations on like lawns. Some people like to clean rugs. They do these crazy before-and-after transformations and they’re really satisfying.
Well, a satisfying thing for car guys is seeing the before-and-after of a vehicle that someone thinks either needs a full paint job or it needs to go to a used car lot and trade it in for something new. And I’m very passionate about making something that even already looks really good, taking it to that next level of Pebble Beach level show car quality. Now, tell us a little bit about what you have done with some cars that are more in the color correction Kansas City inexpensive range.
You’ve also done cars that have literally won awards. And what Kansas City car detailing or color correction Kansas City package did you perform on these cars to make them literally win awards at some of these top shows in America? Well, the one that comes to mind is the one that won the King Concourse, which is the third most prestigious car show in North America. It was a 1958 Mercury 8 painted in Jaguar blue.
And this car had gone, it had been painted by an incredible paint shop and they hadn’t dialed the paint in right, which is typical of a body shop because they do a great paint job and they want to get the car out. They don’t want to spend an extra week correcting it. Right, so this car had gone to like four different shops for a paint correction and what was being missed on that one was it needed to be heat-cycled.
So with a color correction, there’s ten different routes to go with every paint job. And this particular one, when they had wet sanded the paint right after they had painted the car to smooth it out, the paint was still in the baking process when they wet sanded it. So it created this chemical reaction where they would color correct the paint and it would swell from the heat and then when it would shrink back down, it looked exactly the same.
So I had to use this process called heat cycling where you do a panel, you get it really hot, and then you put a bunch of fans on it and you cool it down and then you correct it again, get it really hot, put the fans on it, cool it back down. And you had to do that to every panel of the car four different times. Oh wow.
It’s where I can finally reveal that finish that the owner of the car was looking to achieve and that car went on to win. And that car actually, it just gets shipped all over the country just for car shows. And it’s actually been painted so much that it has to be repainted now.
Wow. It had been done four different times before me and then I did my correction on it which technically accounted for like another four because of how many times I’d heat cycle it. Yeah.
Because each time I did it, I was thinning the clear coat. And then because this car traveled all over the country to these shows, you know, a transporter was moving it, he brushed up against it, or someone touched it, you know, it was putting color correction Kansas City scratches in the paint. So I ended up painting and correcting that car twice.
So that car has been painted a total of ten times. And it’s a lot. It’s due for a paint job.
When you and I saw it at that big show in Kansas City a couple weeks ago. World of Cars. Yeah, World of Wheels.
I was, I can only see the bad in it because I could tell how thin the paint was. So getting that car dialed in that last time was really difficult because the paint was so thin that every time I touched it or every time I tried to wipe the polish off, it was scratching.

I don’t understand the obsession but I am obsessed with making everything that I do look as perfect as possible. Because I know that a lot of the stuff that I do goes to shows, goes to car meets, and I know that in some way that car is tied to my name when I’m finished with it. And I want to make sure that it looks as perfect as possible.
