Hello, Kansas City and welcome back to the Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast, your number one go-to for all Kansas City car detailing services and Kansas City car detailing packages. We are so glad that you joined us today. Today we’re going to be continuing on with our picking of Thomas’s brain, so if you missed the last one, like what’s his favorite car, what mistakes did he make in buying cars, things like that, be sure to check out the last podcast.
All right, Thomas, continuing on with that last question of what car did you own, what car did you regret buying, what about this one, is there a car you regret selling? Yes. That was a fast answer. Yep, I regret selling my C6 Z06.
I sold it so I could grow the Kansas City car detailing business. You know, in hindsight, I could have done what’s called a cash-out refinance, where I could have basically borrowed money against the equity of the car, my payment would have stayed the same, which I had a very good interest rate, I had a really low monthly payment on it, and so I could have kept the car and then taken the cash. I think that would have, I wish I would have done that because, you know, the payment was like 560 bucks a month, which really isn’t that much, and I would have gotten to have kept my dream car, and yeah, I still had, you know, debt in it, but I wish I would have done that.
I could have kept the car and I could still be, you know, enjoying it, and it went up in value, so it actually, it would have been a good investment to have done that. So hindsight being 20-20, I wish I would have kept my C6 Z06 and just done a cash-out refinance and gotten to have kept it. Um, what’s the oldest car that you’ve ever owned? Oh, hmm.
I gotta think about that one for a second. Um, I owned a 1980, the 1986 Toyota MR2 was the oldest car I ever had, and it was a, it was a turd. It was, I liked it because it kind of looked like a 80s Ferrari because it was mid-engine, and I had, I’ve had two MR2s.
I had the newer generation, the 90s generation, then I had the 80s generation MR2, but the, um, yeah, that was the oldest car, and I don’t regret selling that at all, at all. That was not a moneymaker. All right, next question.
How do you feel about modifications? Yay or nay? Definitely yay. I’m, because of what cars represent to me, which is an ex, being an extension of your personality, I think that leaving a car stocked the way it came from the factory is like not putting any spices on a steak. It just, it’s, it’s your way of personalizing it.
The first thing I do with any car that I ever buy, um, I should say any fun car I ever buy, is I put aftermarket wheels on it. That’s like the first thing, and then, you know, I’ve, I’ve gone as far as to, with one of my Corvettes, I put a higher compression engine in it, supercharged it, put a different transmission in it. I mean, the only thing that was stock on that car when I was done with it was the interior and the body, which really wasn’t even stock even then.
So, I, I love modifying cars. It’s one of my favorite things to do. Uh, what’s the most overrated car in your opinion? Um, there’s two.
I think that the Chevy Camaro and the Ford Mustang are very overrated because, you know, you see a lot of guys that’ll buy like a V6 Mustang, or a V6 Camaro, and then they think it’s a sports car. And the reality is it’s not. It’s just a, a two-door commuter car.
And so, I hate having that discussion with people when I’m like, oh, I got a sports car. What do I got? I got a 2013 V6 Camaro. It’s like, oh, that’s not a sports car.
That’s a commuter car. So, um, regular commuter cars with, with V6 engines in them are, I think are really overrated. I wish they didn’t make them.
All right, follow up to that. What’s the most underrated car of all time? Uh, I think it’s a Porsche 911 Turbo. Um, yeah.
I, I didn’t used to think that the Porsche 911 Turbo was really that cool. I didn’t know a lot about Porsches, but I used to think that they were overrated. I used to think that they were overpriced.
Um, and then I, I drove one and I realized it’s one of the best cars ever made. Porsche 911s are kind of like the world’s best kept secret because the people that buy them keep buying them because they realize how great of cars they are. And then guys that are into American muscle that just think it’s a overpriced sports car, they never really get to see the true value of a Porsche 911, especially the Turbo.
Uh, which car brand do you think makes the best interiors? Ooh, Rolls Royce. Definitely Rolls Royce because they, they don’t make performance cars. I mean, Rolls Royces aren’t known for being fast.
They’re, they’re known for feeling like a, like a cloud. You feel like you’re riding on a cloud when you’re riding in a Rolls Royce. Um, the interiors are very quiet.
We go a hundred mile an hour down the highway and you, you don’t feel anything. You don’t hear anything. The carpet is very thick.
The leather is real leather. The wood is real wood. So definitely Rolls Royce.
If money were no object, would you go for performance, luxury or style? Performance. If money was no object, I would buy a Koenigsegg Agera one-to-one, which a car doesn’t even have a radio in it. I just figured that out recently.
They don’t even have a radio in them. It’s like a, it’s like a street legal track car. That’s like crazy horsepower.
I think that would be like the coolest thing of all time would be an Agera one-to-one. Uh, what is your favorite automotive movie or TV show? Hmm. Probably Fast and Furious.
The first five Fast and Furious movies. After that, they all become a little bit unbelievable. Um, and then Gone in 60 Seconds because that was like my favorite movie as a kid.
