Guys, we are so glad to have you back on the podcast today. And we are going to be talking today about car and driver’s top 10 sports cars. So every year car and driver puts out their top 10 list, and, um, we’re going to be going through that.
Actually, this is their top eight list, but still best performance cars. So this is car and drivers rankings have arrived from the best results of extensive instrumented testing of several hundred vehicles each year from expert editors, objective impressions gained in real life driving. They have ranked the best performance sports cars based on roughly 200 data points, encompassing acceleration, handling, comfort, cargo space, fuel efficiency value, and how enjoyable they are to drive.
They take rankings seriously because they want us to know everything about the vehicles that we’re interested in. So number one on the list, actually, we’re going to start down at number eight at a seven and a half rating out of 10, starting at 44,165 is the Nissan Z. So every car enthusiast knows about the Nissan Z, which is a extension of the Datsun Z car line, 200Z, the 280Z, the 240Z, all those things. So car obviously has 400 horsepower, still has the nostalgic styling of the Z car line from the late seventies.
I’ve done a lot of Kansas city car detailing on the Nissan Z’s over the years. Not the newest one. I haven’t done a whole lot of work on the newest ones, but you know, three seventies, three fifties, I’ve done a lot of 300ZX’s over the years.
So, um, that’s definitely a, uh, definitely a good car. Next on the list is the Jaguar F-Type. Now this one’s interesting.
It received an eight out of 10. My personal opinion, I think this car belongs on the list, but I think it depends on which one. Because there’s different variations of the F-Type.
You’ve got the F-Type with a turbo four cylinder, you’ve got the six cylinder, you’ve got the supercharged six cylinder, and you’ve got the V8, and then you’ve got the supercharged V8. I think if we’re going on price to, um, performance ratio, I feel like either the supercharged V6 or the V8 makes a good option. I think the supercharged V8 is obviously the one that everyone wants.
That’s a full blown supercar. I mean, that is a actual supercar, but you know, if you get a supercharged V6 or even just the standard V8 engine in that car, you are going to have, it’s like a British Corvette, weighs about as much as a Corvette. It’s got unique styling.
They’re beautiful. I’m a fan of the F-Type. Next on the list, ooh, with an eight out of 10, this is definitely a car on my list to own is the Lotus Amira starting at $102,250.
Yeah, I’m a real big fan of the Amira. The Amira is to a point now where you look at them and you don’t even know quite what they are. Because it, it almost looks like a, at first glance, it looks like a Huracan.
It really does. At first glance from the front, the Amira looks like a Lamborghini Huracan. And then as you look at it, it’s not wide enough.
It’s too small, but it’s for a hundred thousand dollars, you’re, you’re getting a car that looks like it’s 350,000. Now, obviously they don’t have the, uh, they don’t have the V10 engine or the flat plane cranked V8 engine that we want. But actually I will say the Lotus Amira with the supercharged V6.
Sounds really good. They make one with a turbo four cylinder and they make one with a supercharged V6 and that supercharged V6 sounds really good because it’s a flat plane crank V6. It sounds like a supercar.
The turbo four cylinder sounds like a Subaru WRX, which kind of takes away from it. You look at it, you think it’s pretty. Then you hear it start up and it’s like, Ooh, next on the list is the BMW Z4.
I don’t know. I don’t know if you, if you were going to, okay. If you were going to spend the money on a Toyota or on a BMW Z4, I personally think get the Toyota Supra because the Supra it’s about the same money.
It looks better. It’s it’s, it’s an icon. I mean, it’s a, you don’t have to be a car person to know what a Toyota Supra is.
One of the best supercars, sports cars, Toyota ever made. And obviously it’s BMW. It’s got BMW electronics, BMW engine transmission, but I don’t know.
I would personally go with the BMW or I would personally go with the Toyota Supra over a BMW Z4 great power plant though. And honestly, ironically enough, number four on the list is the Toyota Supra. I mean, and the fact that they, I forgot they made them in a manual transmission.
Now that’s a good car. That’s a really good car. I mean, the Supra has always been like the poor man’s Porsche nine 11 with the engine in the front.
Okay. Maybe it’s not been the poor man’s Porsche nine 11. It’s the working man’s sports car.
I gotta tell you what I love the Toyota Supra. Next up on the list is, Oh wait, real quick. I want to go back to Toyota Supra.
Fun little fact. I had delivered the first ever when the Mark five Supra came out, I was the first person in the state of Kansas to have one delivered and it was delivered to my shop. I am the one who the dealership did not take the plastic off of it.
Cause the customer didn’t want the plastic taken off by anyone else other than me. So I’m, I was the first one to unzip the car. I took all the plastic off.
I did a full paint correction, ceramic coating on this thing. I mean, it looked so good when it was done. And, uh, in theory, I was one of the first people in the state of Kansas to drive one.
And yeah, they are a hundred percent worth the hype. Up next on the list is the seven 18 Boxster. No, I’m going to disagree with this cause I’m not a convertible guy.
And if I’m going to get a seven 18, I’m just going to get the seven 18 Cayman. Cause I don’t like convertibles. I never have.
And honestly, ironically enough, the next one on the list is the seven 18 Cayman. And there’s obviously different models. I mean, the base price is, or the base one is 77,000, but you know, you’ve got the seven 18 Cayman, then you’ve got the S then you’ve got the GTS, then you’ve got the GT four, and then you’ve got the GT four RS the GT four RS is obviously like the most wicked that you can go with.
It’s literally a, got a GT three RS engine with an insane amount of arrow lot of tech. That’s a good car. And then number one on the list, not shocked at all.
