Good morning and welcome to the Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast, the one- stop shop for Kansas City Auto Detailing Services. Guys, I am your host Thomas Thill. I am the founder, owner, and operator of Bespoke Automotive Refinement.

I definitely have been told my whole life I have an eye for detail. From the day I was a little kid tearing apart hot wheels, putting different interiors in different cars, mixing them, putting them back together, my parents always told me, you have an eye for detail. And it’s really funny because I only have one eye.

Guys, today we’re going to be talking about airplanes. I have a lot of people that have reached out to me over the last few years who own an airplane or who have a rich uncle who has an airplane. And once the airplane is detailed, and they’ve asked me, can this be done? Well, with my Kansas City Auto Detailing Services, I can assure you that I absolutely work on airplanes.

The first thing I want to touch on is can an airplane be paint corrected? The short answer is yes, but the long answer is what kind of paint finish does this airplane have on it? There’s so many different types of paints in general. Some airplanes have a single stage paint job. Some airplanes have a clear coat.

Others have a gel coat. And then others have an aerospace finish. So these different types of finishes can change what types of Kansas City Auto Detailing Services can be done on the airplane.

The first thing that I look at on any airplane that I’m working on is what type of paint does it have? I’ve worked on World War II airplanes that have a single stage paint job. Those airplanes, I have to do a different type of paint correction service on them than a Gulfstream or a King Air that has a clear coat. So the first task is figuring out what type of paint finish the airplane has so that I then know what type of Kansas City Auto Detailing Service to perform on that airplane.
But ultimately, yes, you can do a paint correction on an airplane. Lots of people do it. It takes a lot of time.

But man, is it worth it when you get the end product. The next question people ask after me confirming to them that I can, in fact, do a paint correction on an airplane is how much does it cost? Well, unlike a car, there are very many different nuances to aircraft. What type of paint does it have? How wide are the wings? How tall is it? How long is it? All of these things can change the price point.

So rather than a car, truck, or SUV where I have a flat rate when it comes to paint corrections, on any airplane that I perform Kansas City Auto Detailing Services on, I charge an hourly rate. That hourly rate is $75 an hour. Now that includes supplies, that includes products, that includes drive time.

Of course, unless you live on the other side of the country, there’s a different story there. And then depending on the paint finish, the size, the wingspan, and the height of the aircraft will vary on what service we go ahead and go with and what the cost is going to be. The next question that I receive often, can you ceramic coat an airplane? The answer to that question is 100% you can.

There’s a myth that ceramic coating will make an airplane more aerodynamic. And I would just like to crush that myth right now like I’m stepping on a bug. No.

Ceramic coating does not make an airplane more aerodynamic. What it does do, and I’m speaking more specifically now with the airplanes that go up past 25,000 feet, is it prevents corrosion. It prevents freeze cracking.

It prevents dry rot. And it can prevent chipping in the glass because the ceramic coating that I would install on any airplane, whether it’s a single stage finish, whether it’s a clear coat finish, or the airplane that I’m going to be working on here in a couple weeks, which is finished in completely full carbon fiber, all of my ceramic coatings are safe to negative 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, if you’re up 50,000 plus feet, I’m not a scientist, but I’m going to go ahead and assume that it’s not as cold as negative 40 degrees.

But it’s still pretty cold. So that coating is going to last. Now, I haven’t been asked this question, but I would assume someone out there wants to know, can you ceramic coat a space shuttle that goes into space? I have not received a phone call from Elon Musk yet.

However, if anyone has a connection with SpaceX and is interested in having a space shuttle ceramic coated, I would love to sit down with them and talk with them about that. But back to my Kansas City Auto Detailing Services. Guys, I can 100% work on any type of airplane, no matter the size, shape, engine, whether it’s a single prop passenger plane or a MiG-28 fighter jet, which by the way, I have worked on.

We offer many different packages for many different airplanes that will cater to any of your needs for any of your aircraft. Guys, thank you so much for tuning into this episode of the Kansas City Auto Detailing Bespoke Refinement Podcast.
