Why is that? It was the last year of, or it was the last generation of cars that were truly analog, but they had modern designs. They had more of a modern shape to them. They all were, all the manufacturers that were building cars were trying to chase big power, big torque, and they were building cars that you could add a lot of power to aftermarket.
They were like good platforms to build on, and they were all trying to like chase track times, but they were all analog. So they don’t have like, you know, in your Jeep, whenever I change lanes and the cars are too close and it beeps at me, I hate that crap. I hate that type of thing.
And so the generation of cars that don’t like have sensors and computers, like they just let you drive it and we’ll let you crash them, but they have a lot of power would have been like from 95 to 2008. That’s when the C6 Z06 was made, the C5 Z06 was made, and the Toyota Supra, the R34 Skyline, and the Viper, and the Porsche, you know, the first Porsche GT3 RS was in that year range. Like all those cars were just all about chasing track time, Nürburgring track times, and they didn’t have a bunch of computers in them.
Makes sense. Are you drawn more to sharp modern lines or classic curves? Sharp modern lines, but also, well, it’s interesting because to me, a modern car is still like a, I don’t know actually. Like I feel like there’s a difference between a C5 Corvette and a C8.
C8 is like sharp curves versus C3, C4, C5 have these like rounded bubble, but also like an Alfa Romeo or something like the one that was at the rally had a bubbly look to it. I think the C5 aged very well. I think if someone were to look at a C5 they would think it was newer than what it really is.
I think the C4 looks disgusting. If you have one, we apologize. Huh? So if you have one and you’re listening, we apologize.
I wouldn’t mind a C4 Corvette for like a fun cruiser, but I wouldn’t be proud of it. I don’t know. I don’t know.
I wish that there were cars that looked new that were analog. Mm-hmm. That’s, that’s my daily problem with cars is the, um, what did you look up? I see a Corvette.
I’ll see what a C4 looks like. You don’t see a ton of those. I don’t feel like, no.
And like, I think that there’s a place for those, but I’ll look up C5. Yeah, that looks better. They look good.
I mean, three out of the four Corvettes that I had were C5s. I like them. I think they aged really well.
Um, I don’t know. I don’t know the answer to that question. I’d say I just like both.
I like all of them. Uh, next question. What’s one design element that should come back? I know you like analog, but what’s a design element you think should come back? Uh, oh, that’s a good question.
Um, pop-up headlights. C5s. Uh-huh.
Like the Mira. C5 Corvettes have pop-up headlights. Okay.
Yeah. And they, they just, I love that. I love getting in my C5 Corvette at night and flipping the headlights on and going, I love that.
That makes me want to buy a C5 now just because it just, uh, and it makes like a, uh, the sound it makes like, you know, the, in the nineties, like the C5 Corvette did that. The, the Porsche 993 Turbo did that. The Lamborghini Diablo did that.
Ferrari Testarossa did that. Like all these nineties super cars did it and they kind of did away with that. Yeah.
But that was such a nineties vibe. So makes sense. Uh, number four, do you think cars have lost a personality over the years? Yeah.
I mean, um, some have, some haven’t. I think part of what makes a car’s personality is the story. I don’t think I would really ever feel attached to a brand new car because it’s what’s past.
It was made and then I came here and I bought it. How did it start its life with me? I don’t know. I kind of want something that’s got a unique story behind it or a suspicious story.
Like where did that scratch come from? Why does, you know, what, why does it have this on its car facts? Like what happened? Yeah. I think a car’s personality isn’t time or, or, or them becoming more modern. I just think it’s how many miles does it have on it? Yeah.
What design trends drive you crazy? Oh, um, technology, man. I, in a car that you drive every day, I love it. Like the Jeep with the heated seats and the bougie-ness and you know, I like that in a car that you drive every day.
Yep. I hate it in a enthusiast vehicle or a driver’s vehicle. Um, I love, I love cars that you can shut all that off.
And there, there came a point in the late 2000s when they quit letting you press a button and shut all of that stuff off. I wish they wouldn’t have done that, but hashtag government. Last question.
How do color, texture, and finish affect your perception of luxury? Like, I feel like unless a white car is done well, I don’t feel like it looks quite as nice as maybe another one, like less like the one that Chad had in the rally, whereas white with the white wheels, like that’s done really cool. I don’t know if white is usually like, Oh, that’s luxurious. Do you know why his white looks so good? Why is that? Because that car has been fully paint corrected.
So like a white car from the factory, there’s a lot of orange peel and there’s a lot of yellowing. White done right. Like I might, so I had a white C5 with a white interior and it was beautiful.
It had Z06, C6 Z06 wheels. I had put a wide body on the, already had a white body on the rear fenders. They’re flared out.
It looked good, but it’s because it was done right. I don’t feel like a car stock looks good. I feel like the first thing you have to do on a car is black out the taillights, black out the headlights, put different wheels on it, lower it.
It will look better. Those things make a car look so much different and they give it character. Yeah.
