Today we’re going to be talking about what are the 20 cars that changed history and they’re broken down into the five pioneers and game changers, the next five performance and sports legends, five technology innovators, and then the five cultural and market influencers. Now, Thomas, from your thought, what are a few cars that changed technology, culture, and the entire auto industry? Ford Model T. Because it was the first American-made car. Whenever people, you’ll hear people say this is 100% American propaganda.
Everyone’s like, oh, Ford made the first ever car. No, Ford made the first car in America. Cars have been around since the 1800s.
Number two, I would say the Honda Civic would be a culture thing because car guys buy them. They’re cheap. You can modify them really cheap.
They’re really fun to try to make fast, even though they’re slow. Ford Mustang would be one. The Tesla, as gay as it is, the Tesla would be a technological advancement.
I don’t know if it would be the Model 3 or the Roadster, but it would be a Tesla of some sort. So those are my guesses. All right.
Under pioneers and game changers, the first one, made cars affordable for the masses and introduced the moving assembly line. The Model T. Model T Ford in 1908. Good guess.
That was the first one you said too. Number two became the best-selling car design of all time, symbol of post-war mobility. Okay, it would be, I got a couple.
Volkswagen Beetle. Yes. There you go.
First guess. You’re just like… If you read it to me, I’ll probably be able to figure it out. You’re two for two today.
Two for two. All right. Number three, revolutionary front wheel drive packaging, icon of the 1960s Britain.
I’m about to be two for three. Not the Jaguar. I don’t know.
A Mini. Mini Cooper. How did I not know that? I used to own a Mini Cooper.
Number four, created the template for the modern SUV. Helped win World War II. It would be… I had a couple of different options there as well.
There is the Jeep. Wrangler. Helped won World War II.
Would not be a Hummer. You’re correct, but I was going to see what else. Huh? It’s a Jeep.
It is a Jeep? Mm-hmm. Jeep, Willys, MB. But what other guesses did you have? I was going to say there is a Volkswagen Thing.
Nazis used that, but that was a very famous vehicle in the 50s and 60s. Mm-hmm. Number five, best-selling nameplate in history.
Provided… Approved Japan’s reliability to the world. There is the Honda. Nope, not a Honda.
Toyota? Toyota. Toyota. Do you know what kind? But it came out in 1966.
Uh, Corolla. Mm-hmm. Toyota Corolla.
Toyota Corolla. You’re crushed in this game. Well, thank you.
All right, number six, under performance and sports legends. Redefined the sports car formula. Still a benchmark 60 years later.
This came out in 1964. Sports car. Well, it’s not a sports car, but it’s the Ford Mustang.
Nope. What? Nope. A benchmark? I know how that’s phrased, I could totally see it.
This is like… Well, because the Mustang came out in 1964. Yes, that’s correct. This is one of your dream cars.
Sports car. Sports car. Porsche 911.
Porsche 911. Why did I not… Why did I think Mustang? Well, hold on. Number seven, created the pony car category.
Affordable American performance icon. Also came out in 1964. The Ford Mustang.
So that’s why I was like, it totally makes sense. The next one is Ford Mustang. Yes, okay.
Number eight, you don’t really like this car, but it’s all good. America’s sports car. Pushed fiberglass and performance innovation.
Came out in 1953. It’s obviously the Corvette. The Corvette.
Do you like Corvettes? I love Corvettes, man. I am ready to get another one. You were feeling kind of tired yesterday, and we met somebody that had a Corvette, and it was like the spark came back in your eye.
You’re like, you have a Corvette? What kind do you have? It was like a fish finally getting put back in the water, and you could breathe. I would literally be willing to go into massive amounts of debt and live paycheck to paycheck to have a Corvette again. I miss Corvette ownership so much.
Number nine, the first true supercar with a mid-engine V12 layout. Came out in 1966. The Lamborghini Mira? Lamborghini Mira.
It had a V12? That’s what it says. I didn’t know the Mira had a V12. I believe it, but I didn’t know that.
Nice. We learn something new every day. The last one on the list for this podcast, pushed road car performance limits.
Still revered for engineering purity. Came out in 1992. This is not a brand that you love, but it is a sports car.
McLaren? Actually, I would say that there are McLarens that I love. I also hate them at the same time. I’d love to own a McLaren at some point, but in the exact same time, I would enjoy the ownership and extremely despise it at the same time.
