Good morning and welcome back to the Bespoke Refinement Podcast. I am your host, Thomas Till. I am the founder of Bespoke Automotive Refinement.

We are the number one Kansas City car detailing service. If you own a car, truck, SUV, motorcycle, moped, airplane, if you have windows on your house, we will detail and we will ceramic coat it all. Guys, it is the holiday season.

We are in Christmas times. The Christmas days have begun. The trees are up.
The Christmas lights are on all the buildings. This is my favorite time of the year until January 1st, and then after that, I’m ready for it to get warm. And here in Kansas City, it gets cold through the rest of the year.

So, today we are going to be talking about a new trend in the car community that I’m seeing, and frankly, it bugs me. As someone who loves making sure that people’s paint is perfected and protected, I’ve been seeing something the last few weeks that’s making me cringe. It’s literally making me have a heart attack.

I’ve been seeing it on the roads. I’ve been seeing it in parking lots. I’ve been seeing it on Instagram.

I’ve been seeing it on Facebook. And as a Kansas City car detailing service owner, I just have to come out and say it. People are putting Christmas lights on their cars.

Now, in the car community, they say, hashtag, respect all builds. I disrespectfully disagree. You should not respect all builds.

If someone does something to their car that is blatantly stupid, you should call it out. And today, that’s what we’re going to be doing on the Bespoke Refinement Podcast. So, let’s start with Christmas lights wrapped around your paint.

Why is this a bad idea? Well, number one, anytime you touch your paint, whether it’s with the tip of your finger or whether it’s with a baseball bat, it doesn’t matter. You’re going to scratch your paint. Literally.

I bet you didn’t know that. I bet you didn’t know that if you touch your paint on, if you touch your finger on the paint of your car, you will scratch your vehicle. So, can you imagine putting these plastic Christmas lights all the way around your car that whenever you go over a bump, they just sit there and scratch up and down on the paint? It’s horrific.

It is the holiday version of these stance bros that camber their wheels so far that they scratch their frame rails and total their car out. I frankly look at this and I say, wow, this is one of the stupidest things anyone could ever do to their car. Now, we at Bespoke Automotive Refinement, Kansas City’s car detailing service, have a hard time watching people damage their cars.

So, let’s say someone wants to put Christmas lights on their car and they say, Thomas, we don’t care what you say. We want to put Christmas lights on our car. How can we fix the damage that’s going to be done to our car after Christmas? It’s a great question.

If you decide to put Christmas lights on your vehicle this holiday season and you scratch your paint, because you inevitably will, we can fix this. So, the first thing we’re going to have to do is we’re going to begin by hand washing your car. Hand washing your car is going to remove any residue that may have been left behind from the tape when you taped these Christmas lights on your car.

It’s going to get rid of any adhesives. Now, we’re going to start by spraying iron remover all over the entire car to help loosen up the pores of that clear coat and help break away the adhesive residue. Once we’re done washing it, we’re going to then begin by drying the vehicle properly to ensure that we don’t install any new scratches.

We’re going to do this by blowing out all of the cracks and crevices, mirrors, emblems, door handles, grills, everything, and then we’re going to hand dry it with one of our state-of-the-art Kevlar drying towels. Finally, we’re going to pull the car inside and we’re going to put our revolutionary LED hot and cold lights all around the entire vehicle, and we’re going to begin inspecting all of the damage that you did by putting Christmas lights on your car. It’s smart in an instance like this when the entire vehicle is scratched, because it will be, to begin by wet sanding the entire car.

This is going to reduce the time of the correction process substantially because instead of working every little individual scratch out, by scuffing the entire surface with between a 3,000 and 5,000 grit sandpaper, we’ll be able to immediately remove all of the scratches from the Christmas lights. After we are done wet sanding all of the painted surfaces on the vehicle from head to toe, we are then going to pull the vehicle back out and hand wash it again. This process will make sure that we get all of the residue from the wet sanding methods performed and all of the soaps that we used to keep the surface slick while wet sanding off of the paint and stripped before we compound.

This is a process that we do in every paint correction service when you book one of our Kansas City car detailing paint correction services. Next, after we wash all the residue off, we’ll pull the vehicle back in and we will begin compounding the entire surface area that was wet sanded. In this instance that I’m imagining in my head, we are going to compound the entire vehicle from head to toe.

Now this process is going to remove all of the sanding scuffs and it’s also going to add more gloss to the vehicle that was there before the Christmas lights were put on. After that, we will then pull the vehicle back outside and wash it again because now the is going to be covered in

compound dust and you don’t want to get any compound dust in your pad when you go to the final process of polishing the vehicle. When performing our Kansas City car detailing services, this is something that we see very common.

Other detailers do where they compound a vehicle and then immediately start polishing overall compound dust, causing micro marring, hazing, and reducing the gloss that you’re trying to achieve when booking your Kansas City car detailing service. Finally, we will begin polishing the vehicle. I call it a finessing polish.

This polish is not to remove any scratches, but rather add as much gloss to the finish as possible, make the paint as shiny as possible, and protect the clear coat and seal the pores of the clear coat to ensure that it is protected. Depending on what service you book with us, the final step will be ceramic coating or sealing the vehicle. When you book any of our Kansas City car detailing packages and you request a paint correction, we will give you the different sealant and ceramic coating options that we offer.

However, in this instance, we would be applying a five-year ceramic coating to the vehicle. However, our Kansas City car detailing services offer a plethora of sealants and ceramic coatings that can match your needs. Guys, if you’re looking this Christmas season to either purchase a detail for a loved one or get those scratches out of your vehicle after putting Christmas lights on it, give us a call at 620-282-0402 or go online to BespokeRefinement.com.
