Hello, and welcome back to the Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast. We are so glad that you joined us on this beautiful sunny day here in Kansas City to talk about cars. Thomas, are you enjoying the 65 to 70 degree weather that we’re having today? Yeah, I’ll enjoy it more when we can roll down the windows and really enjoy it.

Really enjoy it? We do have a Jeep Sahara that we are currently riding in, and so this is literally the perfect summer vibe. This is the perfect summer vibe. Almost 70 degrees, man.

This is like Thomas’ dream. Whenever it’s snowy and all of that, he does not enjoy it. I’m like, it’s magical and beautiful, and he’s over there like, this is the worst day ever.

I hate the cold. I hate the snow. For multiple reasons.

Number one, he grew up where it’s cold, so it’s not like that. I did not. But number two, he loves sports cars.

You can’t really drive them when you have before. You’ve taken your Corvette out into snow and had some jolly good old times. I’d say on a general basis, that’s not typically what you’re supposed to do.

There’s that, and some people don’t need vitamin D, a.k.a. gingers. Yes, me. And I need it to live.

To have a jolly good old time? Yes. We’re actually on our way right now to go pick up something. Can you tell our lovely audience more about this cool car that you’re picking up? Yeah, so one of my customers… Oh, look, an H3 Hummer truck.

Those are rare. That’s a pretty color, too. I know, I really like that.

Kind of a bright orange-red. So one of my customers has a Chevy SSR, which… I’ve never met anyone that loved them. I’ve either met people who love them, or I’ve met people who absolutely despise them.

There’s no in-between. There’s never people that are like, oh, those are cool. They’re either like, I hate them, or they’re people that are like, I literally love those, that’s my dream car.

There are people that that is their all-time dream car. So we’re on our way to go pick one up right now, because one of my customers bought one years ago, and they’re looking to sell it, and I’m going to help them sell it, and I’m just going to act as a broker for them. So we’re going to go pick it up.

I’m going to give it a really thorough detail. I’m going to make it look like the cleanest SSR in the country, and then throw it up on a bunch of sales sites like Bring a Trailer and AutoTrader, install those, and try to get it moved for them. Now, it’s currently kind of an issue, at least for us today, as we go pick it up, because it’s not currently running.

It doesn’t run. So you were telling me about some things that are unique about this car versus some other cars. What are those? What makes this car different than my Jeep or something like that? So manufacturers do a thing where they make a car called a concept car.

And basically what a concept car is, it’s a vehicle that designers may make five or ten of, and they take it to auto shows all over the world. And then it may be like a version of a car they put into production, but sometimes concept cars don’t go into mass production. What’s interesting about the SSR is it went into production, but they never mass produced them.

They made very few of them. And so because of that, they didn’t make the car, they didn’t design it in a way that a mechanic could pull it, at a Chevy dealership, they’d pull it into the dealership shop, fix it easily, and then pull it back out on the road and have a battery change. It takes ten minutes in a normal car.

I bet this is going to take me an hour because of the poor design. They basically put the battery above the catalytic converter on the exhaust, which is insane to me. So because of that, it makes it harder to work on.

The deal was, the owner of the car, great client, great friend, told me that I could sell the car, and he gave me a number, that basically, you know, I could keep X amount over this number, contingent I could get the car to run. I think I’ve got it figured out, but it’s going to be interesting, and it’ll be really cool to clean it up, make it look really, really, really, really, really good. So you’re going to do your Kansas City car detailing services on this car? I am.

What kind of Kansas City car detailing services are you going to perform on this Kansas City car? First things first, it’s going to get a thorough, deep clean on the engine bay, exterior of the car. I’m going to clean all the door jams. My goal is to make this car look like there’s not a speck of dirt on it anywhere.

So in the door jams, there’s no grease right in here, right? Yep. In the truck bed area, there’s no grease. It’s got a top, like the top actually comes off.

It’s a convertible, so it’s a convertible truck. Just passed a red C06, sorry. Just had to point that out.

And so it’s going to, I’m going to clean like a convertible top, rubber. My goal is to make this look like a vehicle that a museum may find and be like, we’re just going to stick this in our museum because it’s perfect. And the better you can make a car look, the better number you’re going to get when negotiating.

Because if they can’t find any problems, yeah, if they can’t find any problems with it, you know, it’s kind of like when I bought the van. The guy made it too good of a deal for me to, like, I couldn’t find anything to negotiate with. I couldn’t even give him anything, reason not to buy it.

So the goal in buying a car and selling a car, which is a little side gig I used to have, and this may get me back into it, is being able to flip cars and, but yeah, making sure that you’re able to like buy the car at a good price, fix everything on it, make it look like it was very well taken care of, and then sell it for, you know, you can get more for it. So you can always get more for a car that looks exceptional than you can a car that’s just average, you know. Are you looking forward to this process? I am because I love the process of flipping vehicles.

I enjoy it a lot. I have a theory that I’m going to buy this car, or not buy this car, sell this car. I’m going to take the profit that I get from the commission, and I’m going to buy something like, you know, maybe a Nissan 370Z, which is like the older version of the car that your Uncle Mark got, or a C5 Corvette.

Find something that’s straight but needs some love. Give it some love and flip it, and flip a few cars, and then hopefully buy my dream car before April. That’s pretty exciting.

Yeah, so I’m excited for this process. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.
