So tonight we have with us Thomas Thill. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us.

Thank you so much for having me on. I love coming on here every week and talking about cars and Kansas City car detailing and just all of the things making cars pretty again. Now one of the things that when I met you I knew absolutely nothing about was Kansas City Paint Correction.

When you told me that I was like, do you paint cars? If somebody gets a dent, that’s what you fix. And then now it’s literally like the rose colored glasses are off and now I’m seeing a whole new color. Like I see it all over cars today.

I’m like walking through a parking lot and I’m like, oh my gosh, that car already needs a paint correction. It would completely transform its paint. I look at my car now.

My beautiful dream car is now slightly ruined because it’s not paint corrected. Sorry about that. I see it.

I look at it and I’m like, there’s some orange peel in the texture of my paint. This is driving me nuts. I tend to have that effect on people.

Yes. Like the glass has been shattered. My world will never be the same again once I talk to you.

Now, if you’re wanting to look at any before and after pictures, please be sure to check out our Instagram, our Facebook, our gallery on our website. We have a lot of really cool before and after pictures that will just blow your mind. Thomas, before we start, can you tell them a little bit about what exactly paint correction is? So the best way to describe paint correction is the process of either thinning the clear coat down or rearranging the clear coat or paint, depending on what style of paint you have or what style of clear coat you have.

So you’ve got, you’ve got different styles of single stage paint. You know, you’ve got lacquer, you’ve got nitric cellulose. And then with a clear coat, you’ve got a base clear, you’ve got a porous clear.

So depending on what style of paint or clear coat you have, that’s going to depend on the type of paint correction process that we do. But the end result’s the same. The end result is a glass finish on your vehicle’s paint.

So like, for instance, when you buy a brand new car, you say, oh, you know, it looks like it did when it came off the Kansas City Car Detailing showroom floor. Well, to me, that’s not perfect. To me, perfect is removing any orange peel, any texture, any fine little scratches that the car may have gotten on it during the delivery process.

So what we do with a paint correction is we thin the base coat down through a process of wet sanding and polishing to provide a smooth finish, a defect-free finish. And then we apply a ceramic coating to the top of it to ensure that that finish is sealed. It’s not going to fade away over time.

It’s not something you have to have done every couple years. It’s good to go. So if somebody’s wanting to get their car possibly done, how would they even know what to even be looking for specifically? Well, I always tell someone this.

If you haven’t had your car paint corrected, then your car needs paint corrected. Just rule of thumb for me. Really a good way to tell if it needs done, what’s it look like when the sun’s hitting it when it’s clean? If you have your freshly black car cleaned and you see swirl marks in it, it looks dull, it looks hazy, maybe it doesn’t have a lot of scratches in it, but maybe it just looks like it has a rough texture to it.

It needs a paint correction. But like I said, a brand new car off the showroom floor can extremely benefit from a paint correction. What about for somebody that has an old vintage classic car? Like let’s say it’s been around for 70, 30, 20 years.

Do they need to get a full paint job done and then you look at it? Or what does that look like? Well, it primarily depends on the condition of the paint. I mean, I like to think that I work magic, but there’s certain things that I can’t fix. You know, I can’t fix a vehicle that has rust or if the clear coat’s actually gone.

I can’t really repair that. But if you have a car that, let’s say it’s a 1960s and it was repainted in the 80s, and the paint’s in good shape, but it has a lot of scratches, it has a lot of orange peel, it has a lot of oxidation, that’s where a paint correction is going to really benefit. So if somebody is wanting to get a Kansas City paint correction done on their car, what’s the first step that they would need to do in order to do that? The best way to book a Kansas City Paint Correction with Bespoke Refinement is giving me a call at 620-282-0402.

What’s different about booking a detail job, like an interior detail or an exterior wash, a paint correction is something that I want to break down the nuances with you over the phone so that you understand what I’m doing. I can get a better understanding of what the condition of the paint’s like. So unlike what we normally talk about on the show, about going onto the website and filling out the service form online, this is something that I really like having a one-on-one phone call with.

And sometimes I like booking the car or quoting the car in person to really get a good idea of what condition the vehicle’s in. Well, the car that you worked on recently was a 1956 Bentley. And without actually working on it in person, you didn’t even know that that particular type of paint is actually different until you saw it in person.

It wasn’t normal kind of car paint. It was nitrocellulose or something? Yep, it was nitrocellulose. Good job.

Thank you. Yeah, so I’ve worked on a lot of single-stage painted cars, but I’ve worked on a lot of lacquer single-stage paint, which came out in the 60s, 70s, went all the way through the early 90s. I’ve done a lot of work on those types of single-stage paint, but nitrocellulose is very different.

It reacts different to the process. It hazes very quickly if you’re not careful with it, and it’s very soft to the touch. So if you so much as touch it with your finger, you’re gonna put some sort of indention or print mark in the paint that you have to polish back out.

So nitrocellulose paint, it’s very finicky, and it is not something that I would recommend any novice or beginner car detailer touching. I mean, it’s far beyond just polishing one of those. It’s a very in-depth Kansas City Paint Correction process.

If somebody’s wanting a Kansas City paint correction, how long does it take for you to work on a car? How long do they allot for this to take place? Depends on what level we’re going with, and it depends on the size of the vehicle. I would say with a car, if you’re wanting a full paint correction, you’re gonna be looking at anywhere from three days to five days, depending on what type of paint, what type of clear coat, and the condition of the vehicle. We do have a single stage, or excuse me, a single step paint correction, which is actually what I did on your dad’s truck.

It’s a very cost-effective way to get incredible results without breaking the bank. Something like that on a truck takes two to three days. On a car, we can get done in about a day.

What would somebody need in order to prepare for a Kansas City paint correction? What all would they need to provide you in order to do that? I would need a fully covered garage or shop to do the vehicle in, and it needs to be climate controlled. 100% needs to be climate controlled. You cannot paint correct a vehicle outside.

You can’t do it in like a carport where it’s outside, but you know, it’s covered, but it’s still outside. The environment has to be as controlled as possible in order to do a paint correction. Other than that, I bring all the lights, I bring all the equipment.

I just need a garage or a shop to perform the service. So if somebody’s wanting to book with you, tell us one more time, how would they get in contact with you?
