Hello, Kansas City. Welcome back to Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast, the number one premier Kansas City car detailing package and business in the area. We are so glad that you joined us tonight on this very cold night.

We are incredibly blessed to have Thomas Till, the founder and creator of Bespoke here with us tonight, and truly a man who just loves and knows cars like no one else. Thank you, Thomas, for joining us. Thank you so much for having me on.

I just love coming on here and talking about cars and talking about the Kansas City car detailing services that we offer the Kansas City area. So today’s podcast, we’re gonna go through, there’s a competition or an award given every single year for the 10 best cars. You’re talking about the car and driver? Yes, car and driver.

So they have an annual 10 best cars award that has been around since 1983. Over 100 different models with at least one 10 best trophy. But here’s where they ranked how many times each of these cars have won their award since 1983.

So the past 41 years. We’re gonna go through and see if you agree with how many times that car has won an award. Are you ready? Okay, let’s hear it.

All right, so the top number one is the Honda Accord, and it has won 38 times. So 1983 to 1991, 1984 to 1995, and 1998 to present. So it’s won 38 separate times.

What do you think about the Honda Accord? I’m actually a really big fan of the Honda Accord. I think that the Honda Accord, number one, makes a great car if you just want a, I refer to it as like a toaster oven, a car that you just want to go from point A to point B. You’re not looking for an enthusiast car. You want something that starts every time.

You can put three, four, 500,000 miles on it, just doing oil changes, basic maintenance. I actually owned a Honda Accord Si Coupe, which is the twin turbo Honda Accord. It’s kind of like the sportier version of one.

And I loved it. And, you know, over the years doing Kansas City car detailing in the area, I’ve worked on many Honda Accords. Wow.

That’s why I didn’t know the Honda Accord was that popular, that great. Yep. They’re a great car to just get in and go.

And I’m sure at some point I will probably still own one because I think they are just great cars to drive and they don’t really look cool, but they’re extremely reliable. So number two is a car that I know that you don’t like, but it has won 25 different times and it’s the Chevrolet Corvette. They have won 25 different times out of 41 years in 1985 to 1989, 1998 to 1999, 2002 to 2009, 2014, 2015, 2017 to present.

What do you think about the Corvette winning 25 times? The makes perfect sense. I’ve owned four Corvettes in my life and they all fell in that 2002 to 2009 range. I had C5s and I had a C6.
And I think that if you’re looking for a sports car that works, that you can fix, you know, you can go to a auto parts store, AutoZone, O’Reilly’s and buy about any part to fix one. I think they are excellent cars. The one that’s in holds, I hold near and dear to my heart is the C6 Z06.

I think it is literally the best sports car ever made. And when I first started my Kansas City car detailing business, I was lucky enough to be able to purchase a C6 Z06. It was velocity yellow.
I did the full ZR1 ground effects kit. I wrapped the roof black to look like a ZR1 and it had the silver interior and it was one of only 97 ever made yellow with the silverish white interior. So it’s a beautiful car.

I love it. All right. Number three is the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman.

It’s won 20, also 25 times. So one from the first year, 1998 to 2003, and then it’s won every year since 2006. I believe it.

I’m not a huge Boxster fan, but the 718 Cayman, which is the essentially it’s a coupe version of the Boxster. They make different variants of it. So the 718 GTS, and then the 718 GT4 RS is a car that’s on my list to own one day.

I think that they are a very well balanced car. I think that they are very well refined. And I think that they don’t really sound that cool because they just have a little turbo four cylinder in them.
So they don’t really, they don’t sound exotic, but especially the 718 Cayman GTS, you know, you do downpipe tune and exhaust and you will have a relatively fast car for under $100,000. And recently I had a customer book one of our Kansas City car detailing services who had a 718 Cayman GT4 RS. And that car actually comes with a 911 GT3 RS engine in it.

And it is in the car world, a total cheat code. So what other, we’ve only listed out three out of the 10. What other cars do you think might be on this list based on what you’ve heard so far? What are those great cars just off the top of your head? I would imagine that they have the Porsche 911 in there.

I would guess they would have the Toyota Camry. I would guess somewhere in there they would have, I bet they would have a Mustang in there at some point. I’m not, it’s so weird.

I’m a huge Mustang guy. I know more about Mustangs than any other car. I grew up loving Mustangs, but I don’t want to own just a regular V6 Mustang.

It would have to be like a 5.0 Coyote or a Cervini C500. I grew up, my parents had a Saleen S302 Extreme, which was the 650 horsepower Saleen Mustang. And I’d have to own something like that, but I think Mustangs are great cars.

And obviously the Porsche 911 has to be in there because the Porsche 911 is hands down one of the best sports cars ever made. All right, so number four on the list is a BMW 3 Series, 4 Series, I4, and M3. It’s won 24 different times.

It won 1992 to 2014 and then won again in 2023. What are your thoughts on the BMW? BMWs in general, I’ve never owned one. I know a few people who have owned them.

One car that I’d really love to own someday would be a Laguna Blue E46 M3 CSL. I think that that is one of the best drivers cars ever. That’s a car that new was about $40,000 and depreciated down to about $7,000.

And right now they’re up in like the, you buy a clean one for $40,000. So it held its value extremely well. And your dad over the years was telling me about his Corvette that he had and the Viper that he wanted to buy.

And he owned an E46 M3 and I think that’s cooler than the Corvette that he owned because that is a extremely great car to own. All right, number five. We have the Mazda M6.5 Miata.
It’s won 19 times. Won in 1990 to 1992, 1998 to 1999, 2001, 2006 to 2013, and then 2016 to 2019. What are your thoughts on the Mazda Miata? I should have thought of that one when you asked me if I could make any other predictions.

I had a Kansas City car detailing client who owned a Porsche race team. He had four Porsches. He still this day holds the record, the fastest GT2 track record at Road America.
And he first started out racing Miatas. And he told me that the best car to learn how to race around a track is a Miata because they’re slow. And what’s better than driving a fast car fast is driving a slow car fast.

It’s way more fun. So that doesn’t surprise me. So we’ll have to continue this list in part two.
Make sure if you are listening right now to go to the next podcast about the award-winning top best 10 cars. Thank you so much for joining us.
