Hello Kansas City! Welcome back to the Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast, the premier Kansas City car detailing podcast. Today we’re going to be talking about the top 10 best cars as listed by Car and Driver. They have an award every single year for the top 10 best cars and it’s been around since 1983.
Now to join us today is the man who truly knows more about cars than anybody else who’s ever lived, and that’s Thomas Thill. Thank you so much for joining us today. Thank you so much for having me on.
I just love coming on here and talking about all the different Kansas City car detailing services that we offer, but also just talking about cars in general. I mean, that’s a magazine that I was reading when I was five years old. So if somebody, before we begin, wants to get on the books to be a Kansas City car detailing client, how do they get ahold of you? Yeah, you can reach out to me at 620-282-0402 or you can go online to bespokerefinement.com. You can go and look at all of the different Kansas City car detailing services that we offer, all the different packages, and you can also go online to our website and look at all of the different cars that we’ve worked on over the years and check out our gallery.
So if you are listening right now and have not heard part one, make sure you go check out part one because this is part two. We went through the first five cars in the list. Number one was for the most amount of wins was a Honda Accord and then the Chevrolet Corvette.
Third place was the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman. Fourth was the BMW 3 Series, 4 Series, i4, and M3. And then lastly at five was the Mazda MX-5 Miata.
Now for number six, we have the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Rabbit with 19 wins. It won 1983 to 1984, 1986, and then it won from 2007 to 2022. Thomas, what do you think about the Volkswagen? I think the Golf GTI in particular is an awesome sports car.
I remember when you and I first started dating, we were in downtown Lee’s Summit and a car drove past us and you could hear the turbo whistle and it was, I mean, you can tell by looking at that photo what it is and I think maybe you may recognize it, but I said, oh, that sounds good. And she goes, that’s just a regular car. And I said, no, that is a really awesome car.
So, you know, I think the Golf GTI is a great, um, it’s a multi-purpose car. You can buy it to just drive every day and have good power to getting on the highway and keeping up with traffic. Or it’s also a great starter car for a track build.
You know, if you want to have a car to take to the track and have a weekend warrior race car or throw some slicks on the front of it and have a, you know, 13 second fun street car, it’s great for that as well. So I think they’re awesome cars. All right.
Number seven, we have the Ford Mustang with 11 wins. It won in 1983. It’s the first year 1987 to 1998 or 1988, 2005 to 2006, 2012 to 2013, 2015 to 2017 and 2019.
So it doesn’t seem like it wins every single year, but there are some years that it does well. So the Ford Mustang, what are your thoughts, Thomas? It doesn’t surprise me at all. Um, I kind of grew up in a Mustang family.
My great-grandma had a 1973 Mach 1 Mustang. Um, my dad had a 67 GTA Fastback. My grandpa had a 65 Fastback.
He also had a 85 pace car, a two plus two turbo. And then we had a Saleen Mustang. And then there for a while, my dad also had a, it’s either a 2007 or 2008 California special GT.
So I grew up with Mustangs. I think they’re great cars. I just really don’t like the Mustang community.
I think that they’re such a good car that you can get into relatively inexpensively. And they have a lot of power that people that don’t really know how to drive a car with that kind of power getting in them and crashing them. And so, um, I think the community’s kind of ruined the Mustang culture, but I still, there’s a couple of them that I want to own.
I mean, I’d love to have a 5.0 Coyote, um, 03, 04 Cobra Terminator. And I think it’d be really cool to have a New Edge Mach 1 as well. All right.
Number eight, we have the Honda Civic with 10 wins. It won in 1985, 1988 to 1991, 1996, 2018, 2019, and then 2023 to present. What are your thoughts on the Honda Civic? I love Honda Civics.
That’s going to be another car that I’m going to drag home someday. And you are going to be like, why is that here? So my first car that I ever purchased on my own was a EG hatch Civic with a B16 swap. It had no power steering.
It had no air conditioning. The only option that this car had was a sunroof. It was a five-speed manual.
And it honestly started my obsession with street racing because I was able to get into a 13 second car. Um, and literally my first car, I paid 900 bucks for it. And the engine in it was worth probably about $4,000.
So great car. I’ve had a couple Civics over the year. I had a, I had a Type R. I had a Civic SI. Um, I love Honda Civics. I think they’re great cars. All right.
The last car on the list, man, Honda for the win. We have the Honda Prelude. It’s won 10 times, 1984 to 1986, 1992 to 1998.
So it doesn’t seem to really do well since the nineties, but the Honda Prelude. The Honda Prelude is an amazing car. Um, Acura made their own version of it called the Acura Integra.
And it showed up a lot in like Fast and Furious movies. And they’re a car that came with a really great engine from the factory. And, you know, you slap a turbo on it, headers, retune it, and you have a 12 second car.
Now, obviously I’m a street racer. So naturally I’m just going to look at any car that you can get power out of that’s light. But Honda Prelude just made a really good daily driver sports car that was unsuspecting and just a great driver’s car all the way around.
And over the years, I’ve done quite a few Honda Preludes. Um, folks that have owned them have booked our Kansas city car detailing package. More specifically, they’ve done our paint correction, ceramic coating package.
Um, I love doing the Firestone red that Honda does. I think even on a 30 year old car that paint can still look so good if it’s properly corrected and maintained with our Kansas city car detailing packages. So if somebody wanted to get a hold of you, what are some services that you offer at Bespoke Automotive Refinement? Yeah, so we offer everything from a basic maintenance wash, monthly reoccurring to a full paint correction and ceramic coating and then everything in between.
Um, our most famous package that we offer is our gold glamor package, our ultimate detail. Um, this package includes a full interior detail and recondition as well as a single step polish and a one year ceramic sealant. You can also upgrade that ceramic sealant to a three year or a five year ceramic coating.
But I would say of all the packages that we sell, that is the number one most common. Um, it’s really a great bang for your buck when you’re looking at booking a Kansas city car detailing service and you really want to rejuvenate the life of your car. That’s the one to go with.
So if somebody bought one of these award winning cars from the 90s and it’s in some pretty rough shape, is that something you could help somebody somewhat restore and clean up? Absolutely. 100%. Um, if someone brought me a car with faded paint and the interior was faded and then had, you know, stains in the seats or the leather seats were cracked, it had stains in the carpet.
I mean, we could literally make it look like a brand new car as long as it has clear coat and as long as the interior is existing. Um, and if you’re looking at booking one of these Kansas city car detailing services, you can give me a call at 620-282-0402 or you can go online to bespokerefinement.com. You can check out all of the different Kansas city car detailing packages that we offer and you can also check out a lot of the different, uh, cars that we’ve done in our photo gallery section.
