This is your host, Thomas Till. I am the founder, owner, and operator of the number one Kansas City car detailing service. We offer everything from your basic car washes, maintenance details, all the way to a full interior detail, paint correction, and five-year ceramic coating.
Guys, today we are going to be talking about something that I think any dog lover, or any dog owner for that matter, can relate to. So, a little under a year ago, I adopted a little pit bull lab mix named Carly. She was abandoned on the side of the highway, and I found her at a shelter in Arkansas.
I was not planning on getting a dog a week prior, but I ended up finding her. The moment I saw Carly, I just knew that she had to be mine. I adopted her.
I, at the time, was visiting my parents, and I took her back to my parents’ house. We spent a week together. When I brought her home back to Kansas City, and I got her out of my car, I discovered one very glaring detail.
She sheds a lot, and this dog hair that she sheds had completely filled the back seat of my Dodge Durango with dog hair. It was something that I had never really dealt with in the past, though I was used to cleaning dog hair, as a lot of my Kansas City car detailing clients want me to clean their dog hair. I had never experienced it myself.
So, if you have a dog, inevitably you will, because most dog lovers are good people, and most good people choose Bespoke Automotive Refinement, the number one Kansas City car detailing service. You are going to want your dog hair cleaned, and you are going to want your car feeling like new again after every detail. So, you may be asking yourself, well, Thomas, how do I remove dog hair from my car? I’ve tried vacuuming it out, and I can’t get it out.
Well, guys, that’s what I’m here for. We have an assortment of techniques, tools, airbrushes, paintbrushes, and scrub brushes to remove dog hair. Over the years, I have learned the best methods to removing dog hair from seats, carpet, headliners, and interior trim pieces.
So, the first method, or the first step, I should say, to removing dog hair is you are going to want to blow out all of the cracks and crevices with compressed air out of all the doors, the dash, the cup holders, the air vents, because that dog hair gets everywhere. Once you do this, the dog hair is going to settle onto the floor and under the seats, which is where you want it. Next, you’re going to begin by air compressing the entire headliner to get rid of all of the dog hair that has gone up into the air and stuck to your headliner.
A lot of other detailers miss the headliner, but at Bespoke Automotive Refinement, we are the number one Kansas City car detailing service, and we always check the headliner before finishing any detail to ensure that the car feels as new as possible. When we are cleaning dog hair, we will blow out the carpet and the seats to loosen up all of the dog hair and create as much negative friction as possible in the carpet so that the hair does not stick to the carpet. Air will allow the friction to dissipate, and that will soften the carpet fibers, allowing the hair to be more easily removed.
Next, we will hit it with a light brush or a medium brush, depending on how thick the carpet is and what type of carpet material you use. A lot of automotive manufacturers use a plethora of carpets, and we like to test different brushes before removing the dog hair from the carpet to ensure that we don’t fray the carpet and to ensure that all of the dog hair is removed. If our assortment of brushes and tools do not remove the hair from the carpet, we will use our state- of-the-art pet rock.
A pet rock looks like a big lava rock, but it is actually designed specifically to remove dog hair or any other pet hair from carpet that is holding on to the pet hair. Most detailers will wetten the carpet down and wetten the cloth seats down before attempting to remove the dog hair, as it is a myth that hair loosens up from being wet. The proper way to do it is to actually remove the dog hair while the carpet and the cloths in the interior of the vehicle are still dry.
Once all of the dog hair is loosened, we then begin by vacuuming the carpet and the cloth and the headliner and the entire interior to ensure that all of the dog hair or pet hair is removed and out of sight and out of mind. If your dog has thrown up in the past or urinated in the interior and left a liquid ring or any sort of stain, we will then begin to wet the carpet and wet any of the cloth seats or cloth materials down with a degreaser water mix to begin breaking up the acidic stains in the carpet or cloths on the interior. We will then begin scrubbing the interior down with a separate brush to break apart the stains, loosen the stains, and try to remove any acids in the carpet and cloths that can then be wet-vac’d out of the interior to eliminate odors and eliminate stains.
After that is done, we will then begin cleaning all of the leather, all of the plastics, with a leather and vinyl safe degreaser to ensure that any grime, any stuck dirt, any stuck on mud is properly removed in a safe manner that doesn’t use harmful acids that can cause cracking in your leather or fading on your interior vinyl pieces. Finally, when all this is done, we will then begin to condition the leather, condition the vinyl, and ensure that the interior looks as close to new as it was the day you brought your car home. Guys, once we’re finished with this, we will then clean all of the windows and clean all of the door jams, because with all of our Kansas City car detailing services, when you book an interior detail with Bespoke Refinement, we don’t just clean the carpet and the windows and the plastics on the interior, but we will also clean the door jams.
This ensures a like-new image the moment you open your car’s door. You don’t see mud on
your door jam with a clean interior. We want the car to feel as new as possible when you book one of our Kansas City car detailing packages.
