There’s no one else really in this part of the world that knows more about paint correction than Thomas Till. I’m flattered. We are so honored that you are joining us to share with us your wisdom on paint correction in Kansas City.
Now tell us a little bit about what got you into paint correction specifically. It was a punishment. Oh no.
So I got into a little bit of trouble when I was, well I got into a lot of trouble when I was a teenager and my father owned a Kansas City Car Detailing service company that had a bunch of old work trucks that were going out into fields and getting scratched and just getting beat up on and so my punishment was to hand polish these trucks and I was supposed to hate it apparently and so I started hand polishing one of these trucks and I got like halfway done with it and it just looked really bad and so I went on YouTube and I started looking up like effective ways to polish a vehicle and I went to my dad I’m like hey I know this is a cruel and unusual punishment but if you really want these to actually look good go buy me a orbital buffer from Walmart and I’ll actually make them look good. So he did and I made this one truck look really good because I you know that that was before you had like all of these different YouTube channels that talked about detailing there was just basic knowledge on polishing like I would run into his office and I would like watch a video and then I would run back down to the truck and try something and I fell in love with it so what was supposed to be a cruel and unusual punishment ended up becoming like my passion and every vehicle I worked on I just got better and better at and I learned more and then he had a business partner who had a few vehicles that he wanted me to do and so we did those and then there were other people around my hometown that you know had old collector cars and they wanted me to do them and then that was basically how it spiraled into what I’m doing now. So what exactly, just a quick synopsis, is paint correction and what can it do to completely transform somebody’s car? Paint correction is the process of heating up and then thinning down the surface whether it’s a single-stage paint job or a clear coat to remove any texture orange peel oxidation scratches micro marring it’s supposed to make it look like glass so it’s way more advanced than a basic buff job.
A basic buff job is they put filler polishes on a pad and they just rub it into the vehicle and it fills in all of the little scratches and swirls in the paint makes it look really good for about a week and then those filler polishes begin breaking down and you start seeing these swirls in the paint. What paint correction is you’re actually thinning down the clear coat or the surface to reveal this glass finish. It’s very tedious it involves wet sanding at times it’s very heavy compounding but if you’re doing a clear coated vehicle you introduce heat to the vehicle or the finish and that heat basically melts the clear coat and it smooths it out or rearranges it and flattens it out.
On a single-stage paint job you’re thinning the paint down to reveal that finish so the Kansas City Car Detailing process varies depending on what style of paint job you have on hand. If somebody’s wanting to get a paint correction Kansas City job how would they go about doing this? What are the general steps? How do they even know that they even need one? Well everyone needs a paint correction. Can you do it on all types of cars? You can do it on anything.
Can you put it on a Tesla Cybertruck? You can. Can you correct a Tesla Cybertruck? Kind of. Those are stainless steel but guys are actually that like so there’s there’s there’s guys that are really good with polishing stainless steel like on semis and tankers and they figured out how to polish these Cyber Trucks that literally make them look like an actual mirror and they are like it makes me want to buy a Cybertruck just so I can do that because it just looks like a driving mirror.
It’s the coolest thing ever. Yeah you can’t do a Cybertruck. It wouldn’t really be called paint correction per se but it is an advanced Kansas City Car Detailing technique of polishing and rearranging the surface to reveal this insane mirror-like finish.
So the best way to book a paint correction Kansas City service is to give me a call at 620-282-0402. I can talk through the different levels of paint correction. I can talk you through you know what I think your vehicle may need judging by what the surface looks like.
I also do free in-person quotes so if you have a car collection you’re wanting done or you have one specific vehicle and you don’t really know how to describe what the paint looks like and what goals you’re looking to achieve with the finish I do provide a free in-person quote. Now you have worked on some really cool cars. Tell us some stories of some jobs that you’ve done for paint correction in Kansas City. You’ve worked on Ferraris, 1956 Bentley’s, you’ve worked on a variety of paint Kansas City Car Detailing correction Kansas City jobs.
I gotta tell you the most satisfying job that I did was on this Bentley that I did recently because the before and after was very satisfying. I don’t know if satisfying is the right word. It’s the first time that I’ve ever stood back and looked at a car and actually gotten kind of teared up because I was like I did that like I made that look that good from what it looked like before because I was questioning myself on that one.
Just because the paint was so old , the original 70 year old paint was very brittle and so that was a really fun one for me. You know I did a five million dollar Ferrari F40 which was also very tedious because they made the paint on those cars so thin. Actually on the Ferrari F40 they wanted the car so light that they sprayed the paint with this or they sprayed the car with as little amount of paint as possible to save weight. So whenever you correct an F40 you’ve really only got like one chance to make it right and so that was very interesting.
I did a jet. I’ve done a lot of planes. I’ve done a lot of boats.
You’ve done a helicopter? I’ve never done a full helicopter but I did the rear rotor on a helicopter one time. So if you have a helicopter and you want to get Kansas City Car Detailing paint correction in a Kansas City job we would love to use that on our social media. I’ll do it.
I’ll do it. I won’t discount it but I’ll do it. Have you ever ridden a motorcycle? I’ve done a lot of motorcycles.
Motorcycles are like so everyone assumes that a motorcycle would be less because of the size but a motorcycle is extremely tedious because of all the little curves and the tight spaces like to get into the rear fairing and the the gas tank and the front fairings like they’re they still take about a week to get a motorcycle right. Wow that is one thing people know about Thomas is he has a high level of perfection, excellence. He will spend more time on it than even probably quoted for you just because you care so much like you want it to be at its absolute perfection best.
It’s my toxic trait. I will start on a vehicle and say okay this is gonna take me three days and then six days into it I’m done. Why did I do this? I can’t help it once I start on something and I’m not this way with everything.
I’m not that way with you know organization but when it comes to making a car perfect it’s like it’s not perfect you literally cannot sleep at night. So if somebody is wanting to get into the queue for a paint correction Kansas City job how would they get a hold of you?
