Hello, Kansas City. Welcome back to the Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast. You’re number one go-to for all of your Kansas City car detailing needs, all your Kansas City car detailing services, as we offer all kinds of Kansas City car detailing packages.

We absolutely love talking all about cars. This is what we literally do 24-7. Anytime we’re driving around and we’re talking about something else, Tom must have spotted something pretty cool, because once you’re in Kansas City, we have all kinds of really cool cars.

It’s like you’re spotting something new every day. You’re like, oh, that one. Not as much as if when we were in Miami last year, or somewhere else another time, and you were like, oh, look at that, look at that, look at that.

They’re all kind of mentors and all kinds of fun things. Oh, we actually, when we were in Miami, we saw the, it’s like a one-of-one Lamborghini Ravolto. It’s got like a, I think this paint job was like $260,000.

Oh, wow. It’s one of these cars. They made it for this very prestigious Lamborghini collector in Florida.

It’s a very famous car. And I remember you and I, I could see it like two blocks down. I heard it, and then I’m like, oh, my gosh.

I can’t remember the name of the color, but it’s like a chameleon-type color where it goes from purple to green to orange, depending on how the light hits it and how it’s beautiful. So, yeah. I’m excited.

We’re going to go back to Florida in just a few days. Orlando. I’m going to wait for now.

All right, ready for the next set of questions? I’m ready. What’s the most oddly satisfying part of detailing a car? The most oddly satisfying part of detailing a car. Honestly, it is removing discoloration from carpet and seats.

It’s really fun. I love when I see the dirt and just the filth coming out of it. It’s a weird thing, but I do like it.

That would be fun. I like the before and afters that you take whenever you do a car. I love seeing just the transformation.

Even a basic cleaning can do all the way up to a paint correction. You know, honestly, another thing that’s really oddly satisfying is cleaning off brake dust off of wheels. Watching you do that, you get really happy.

I do. I love cleaning wheels. I’m a wheels guy.

When it comes to cars, I can’t have a car with stock wheels. I have to have aftermarket wheels on any fun sports car. It’s the first thing I’ve ever changed on any car I’ve ever gotten.

Because I’m a wheels guy, all the wheels always have to be perfect. Is there a magic trick in detailing that clients are always shocked by? Yep. Iron remover.

Is that a big name changer? It is. Especially on white vehicles. You get a white vehicle that is in a city and it’s parked out in an industrial area where there’s a lot of pollution in the air and the car gets rained on.

It starts getting these iron deposits and they’re just little tiny. They look like little rust spots. Iron remover.

You spray the car down with iron remover and it just starts to bleed purple. Wow. You use the same stuff you use to remove brake dust.

Clean it off. If you know how to use lacquer thinner, removing scratches with lacquer thinner, but that is a very, very, very precise thing. Not anyone can just do that.

You can rub the paint off like that if you’re not careful. Number three. What’s the most disgusting or bizarre thing you’ve ever found inside of a client’s car? When I was younger, when I was 21 years old, I worked at a Chevy dealership as a detailer.

I saw some pretty nasty stuff. I think the most nasty thing I ever saw was… The dealership I worked for would buy cars at auctions that had been repoed. This one particular instance, there was this car that someone had been living in and there were dirty diapers underneath the back seat.

There were needles and then there were dirty needles. That was pretty gross. No kidding.

Number four. What part of detailing do most car owners underestimate the most? I feel like a lot of people are like, oh, it just needs a quick vacuum. You’re like, there’s a lot more that goes into making sure your car is spotless.

Definitely cleaning. So I would definitely say cleaning carpet. Someone goes, oh, my carpet needs vacuum.

Well, your carpet holds so much sand and dirt that just vacuuming it once… There’s still dirt batted into the fibers of the carpet that just vacuuming it doesn’t make it look vacuumed. Well, it kind of reminds me. I just cleaned our house yesterday and I swept it up.

I had the room bug go around and it also swept up. And then I mopped. So it had already been run through twice.

By the time I mopped, it was covered in dirt that it had found. So even though it swept twice, there was still inside the wood fibers, there was more. Exactly.

So that’s definitely a big one is vacuuming carpet, for sure. When people go from our least expensive package, which is probably a more basic, all the way up to the most thorough, gold package detail. What is that jump like? What are some areas that you’ve covered there that you don’t cover on the basic one? Well, the big thing is getting all of the debris out from underneath the seats.

You know, you got so much stuff that builds up underneath the seats, in between the seats with the seat tracks. I’ve got an air compressor that I just stick in the carpet and I blow all that out of there. Oh, wow.

And same thing with any of the matted down fiber, dirt in the fibers of the carpet. You blow all that out. But that, you don’t get that with the basic package.

Cleaning any little stains in the leather, getting all of the, I don’t know if you remember when I cleaned your seats, they had the tanning cream or whatever that was. They did, yeah. You know, you don’t get me cleaning that out with the basic package.

You get that with the full detailing package. And then polishing the paint, you know, with the gold package, if you’ve got a white car that has a lot of iron deposits in it, I’m going to remove the iron deposits and then polish the paint and rehydrate and clear coat. If we’re not doing a gold package, I just wash your paint, but I don’t try to get that out of there.

Okay. Next question. If cars could talk, what’s the sassiest thing one of your clients’ cars would have said to you? I’m not as clean as they claim I am.

Whenever someone tells me their car is disgusting, it’s not that bad. Whenever someone tells me that their car isn’t that bad, it’s disgusting. That holds true time and time again.

Like, now if someone says to me, my car’s disgusting, but I’m pretty picky, their car’s going to be clean. If someone goes, well, it’s not that bad, I have multiple children, it’s going to be disgusting. But everyone has their own version of what clean is and what not clean is.

Especially when you have kids. I’ve noticed someone will say, I’ll never let my car get that bad when they have kids. And I look at their car and I’m like, that is already bad.

But when you have kids, you don’t really… I think your version, especially kids in a car, I think you have a different version of clean. It’s weird, but every time I get in a car where they have kids, it has a different odor. They all have a different odor.

And I don’t know why that is, I don’t know if it’s fast food, I don’t know what it is. But there’s a specific odor that cars have when there’s kids. And I don’t know what it is.

I’m always able to get rid of it, but I’ve never been able to figure it out. But it’s the exact same odor. So if somebody’s wanting to get ahold of you and they want to get that odor out of their car, they want the car to look conspicuous, they want to get the car ceramic coated, how would they go about getting ahold of you?
