Well guys, we are sitting in the middle of Missouri in a blizzard. We had about a foot and a half of snow came through a couple days ago and so let’s be real. I mean no one’s really wanting an exterior Kansas City car detailing package performed on their vehicle right now.
So we’ve been hanging out inside. We’ve been staying warm and I got out today and I was driving in the snow and I was driving the Bespoke Refinement Detailing Van around because that’s my daily driver. I got to thinking about if I could only have two cars and I had a certain budget and it’s only two cars that I could drive, what would I get? And I realized that you obviously got to come up with a budget and you got to come up with the climate that you live in, what part of the country do you live in, are you going to be driving in the snow, are you going to want to take your car to the track on the weekend, or is it just going to be like a fun street car that you can go fast during the winter.
What would the perfect two-car solution be for where we live on a budget? I could come up with the perfect two-car solution but it would cost millions. So if we’re on a budget, let’s say we’re going to spend less than $100,000 and for under $100,000 I were to build the perfect two-car solution, what would it be? Well what I would do is I would look at the car that I would drive in the summertime and I would look at the car that I would drive in the wintertime. And the car that I would drive in the wintertime, it would need to have a couple of things.
So it would need to be all-wheel drive, it would need to be a vehicle that I wouldn’t have to worry about it getting stuck in the snow, it would need some form of, I don’t even want to say lifted, but it would need to be a very known thing that that car can get around in the snow well. And I got to thinking about it, I’ve owned a couple of these cars in the past and I realized I’m going to have to buy another one because it is the perfect winter vehicle for a car guy. And that is a Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
Now the one I owned, this was back almost 15 years ago, almost 20 years ago, it’s crazy to think about, but I owned a 2004 Subaru WRX STI Impreza. It was World Rally Blue with the gold BBS wheels and the blue interior. I mean, any car guy knows what car I’m talking about.
So obviously, I grew up in western Kansas, we would always get a ton of snow and that car never got stuck. I mean, I actually pulled a truck out of the snow with that car, no lie. I pulled a lifted Chevy Silverado 4×4 out of the snow because it was so light and it had so much torque because of the turbo.
I mean, that car was an absolute cheat code. So if I had a budget of $100,000, one of the cars that I would buy as a snow car, a wintertime car, would be, it would be the 2008 to 2010 Subaru WRX STI Impreza. The reason why I would get that generation is I think the new, the newest body style Impreza WRXs look like Ford sedans.
Like, I’ve never looked at this most recent body style of the WRX STI and thought, that’s a good looking car. I look at it and think, well, if it’s a WRX, you know, it just looks like a sedan. And if you got the STI, it’s got a wing on it, but I’ve never thought it looked sporty.
But the 2008 to 2010 Impreza STI with the the hatch model, that car has always held a special place in my heart. So, you know, as I was, as I was thinking through this, I literally went on Facebook marketplace and started looking for one to buy because I really want one now. So that would obviously be one of the cars.
Another one of the cars that I would consider getting would be a, this would be an older generation, like a mid-2000s Audi RS6. You know, it’s a twin-turbo V8, all-wheel drive. They’re bulletproof.
You’ve got a fun car that looks good. It’s unique looking. It’s something that if you’re not a car guy, you’re not going to take a second look at that car.
You’re going to, you’re going to look at an early 2000s RS6 and think, it was some hand-me-down from a grandpa to a grandson and, you know, he just never bought another car. But if you know that car, you’re literally going to turn, pull a U, and make an illegal U-turn and chase it down to see it. So that would be another option for a winter, a fun winter daily driver for the two-car solution.
My final one for a winter daily driver, we’re doing the, and right now we’re just doing the winter car on the two-car solution, so we haven’t gotten to the summertime car. But it would be a Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG. Why? Well, it’s kind of a cheat, but I didn’t own one, but I have driven an E55 AMG in the snow, and that car is extremely comfortable, has a very smooth ride.
Again, it’s a Mercedes-Benz product. Yeah, if it breaks, it’s going to cost a lot to fix, but they almost never break. And honestly, it’s such a classy looking car.
It’s a car that you can park in your garage with your summertime fun car, which we’re going to get to in the next series, and it looks like it belongs. The RS6 from the early 2000s, I think that’s the B4 or the B5, doesn’t look like, it wouldn’t belong with a proper looking sports car, especially if you’re spending most of your money on the sports car, the summertime car. So with the E55 AMG and the 2008 to 2010 Impreza WRX STI, I think those two are great options for wintertime daily driver beaters.
