So guys, I was scrolling on Facebook just now. I joined a Facebook group, and it’s called Celebrity Car Owners.
And it’s basically this group that shows celebrities from like, you know, modern day, like right now, all the way down to like the 1940s. And it shows them with their car, right? So there were photos of, you know, Sylvester Stallone in the early 2000s, hopping out of his 911 Turbo Porsche. And there was photos from the 60s of Steve McQueen riding a motorcycle, doing some crazy stunt on a motorcycle.
And then there were even celebrities that I didn’t recognize, their names, and you know, with crazy cars. But one trend that I picked up on, that I want to touch on today, and this may end up being a two-part series, is how people that are extremely wealthy, you know, can buy whatever car they want. They all have very unique tastes.
I mean, the perfect example, and I was fascinated as I was scrolling through this group, because I saw things I wouldn’t expect. Like, I saw a photo of Lady Gaga driving a early 70s Mercedes 190D, which is a diesel sedan. You know, if you saw it, if you weren’t a car person, and you saw one parked at a gas station, you would think it was some old clunker.
And there’s Lady Gaga rolling around Times Square in one. You know, and you’ve got some guy from England. Actually, I became fascinated with this guy’s car collection, because he had the most unique cars.
And he literally had, he was a rock, some rock star from England, I didn’t recognize his name. But he had his summer car and his winter car. So his summer car was a Ferrari F40.
And his winter car was a Lancia Delta, which is like the ultimate Group B rally car. And, you know, obviously, if you’re not a car person, and you see a Ferrari F40, you think it’s an old race car. It’s an old Pontiac Fiero, you know, you don’t know it’s a $5 million car.
And with the Lancia Delta, if you see one of those, you think, oh, it’s a, you know, old hatchback from the 90s. You don’t know that it’s a half million dollar race car. And so my wife and I have these conversations all the time.
You know, in fact, today, we were on our way to dinner. And we saw a Buick Regal GS, which I used to own one. It’s the really big body Buick Regal, with the supercharged 3800 General Motors engine.
And we passed it. And I told her, I said, I used to own one of those, that’s a fast car. And my wife like couldn’t get over the fact that it just looked like an old grandma car.
And I’m one of those guys were like, I love all cars. You know, I love a Koenigsegg Regera. I also love an old Mercedes 190 D, which when I saw Lady Gaga driving one of those, I’m like, okay, she may be far out there as a person, but her taste in cars is pretty admirable, which is interesting, because we actually recently performed a Kansas City car detailing service on a Mercedes 190 D. A couple months ago, a client of mine bought one.
And we ended up doing a three stage paint correction on this car. So we wet sanded it, the whole thing, paint corrected it, and then ceramic coated it back out. But it turned out so good.
So it fascinated me to see that these celebrities that have just endless amounts of money, whether they’re rock stars, whether they are singers, whether they have, you know, their A-list movie celebrities, they’re all driving very unique cars. Liam Helmsworth was driving a, I spotted driving a late 80s Mercedes convertible. I can’t remember what it was.
Not a very expensive car, probably a $15,000, $18,000 car. I know a couple people who have them and their collection is kind of like a filler car. It’s not really like something that’s a showstopper, but they’re a fun, take the top off, cruising around town in one, but you really only buy one if you know what it is and you can have an appreciation for it.
And so seeing Liam Helmsworth driving around in one of these was just like, oh, that’s pretty cool. Another one that I found very interesting was Bruce Springsteen was a huge Corvette guy. I guess you could kind of predict, but, you know, he was always spotted driving around Corvettes and, you know, Trans Ams and Camaros.
And I guess that’s the, I guess that’s the typical, you know, American rock star from the 80s persona, right? Gotta be driving around in either an old Corvette or an old Trans Am. You know, another one that I found really interesting was I found one of Mariah Carey, I guess this is common knowledge, and this is proof that the most unsuspecting celebrity or person in general can be a good driver. So I guess this is common knowledge that Mariah Carey’s daily driver, the car that she drives all around Hollywood in is a 1956 Ferrari, or excuse me, it’s a 1956 Ferrari 356 Speedster A. I mean, I would never, I would never dub Mariah Carey as a car person, let alone someone who drives around in the same car that James Dean was killed in.
Think about that. The same car that James Dean was killed in because he didn’t know how to drive it, Mariah Carey drives every day. That’s just absolutely incredible to me.
