Hello, Kansas City and welcome back to the Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast. We’re so glad that you’ve joined us tonight to talk more about cars. Now Thomas, are you ready to talk about cars? I love talking about cars.
It’s one of my favorite things to do ever of all time. All right, number one. How does a clean car change the way you feel driving it? It feels lighter, it feels faster, it feels less clogged.
Kind of like imagine going to work with a clean, clear mind. Like imagine going to work after you just had a massage, you were just pampered. You feel rested, rejuvenated, and like new again.
That’s kind of what driving a clean car feels like. I mean if you got in my Durango and tried to drive it right now across town, you would feel horrible about yourself because it’s so nasty. But when you get in your jeep, especially after like we went on that vacation and we got in the jeep and it was clean, it’s like… Can you imagine if we wouldn’t have cleaned it after the trip to Arkansas and gotten back and all that crap would have still been in it? Yeah.
It would have sucked. Yeah, it would have been a completely different experience. I truly love a clean car.
I mean like getting in there and I left something in there the night before or something, I’m like, oh man. I mean I love having a clean car. So when you go through and scrub my seats or make sure that there’s no dust or fingerprints on the screen, anything like that, it changes the way I feel like I start my day too.
Yes. Number two, what are your top three dream cars to detail? Koenigsegg Jesko, Pagani Huayra BC, and a Bugatti Belloyd. And I know two of those three cars are in Kansas City.
The Bugatti Belloyd is like $10 million, I’m sorry, $16 million car. There’s only like five of in the U.S. and one got spotted in Overland Park the other day with a Kansas plate on it. Really? And then there’s a rumored Koenigsegg one-to-one or sorry, Koenigsegg Jesko that’s sitting in a basement somewhere in Kansas City because it’s got Johnson County tags on it.
So I’ve seen the photos, it’s real. So I need to figure out who owns those. Next question, what’s the best way to protect a car that’s stored outside? Ceramic coat it.
Keep the paint more protective? Don’t ever put a cover on a car. Really? Oh, those are horrible. So cover’s worse than just leaving it? I would way rather leave my car sitting outside with a ceramic coating on it.
In fact, I’ve done that. When I first started this business, I was working a full-time job and I had a two-car garage and I had five cars. I personally had five cars.
And you still didn’t put like a cover on it? Well, so I would use my garage to do paint correction. I had to pull the car in sideways to do it. So I had two Corvettes and these cars would have to sit outside in the middle of winter.
So I literally like my C6 Z06 and my super rare C5, it was a white on white car. This car should have been in a museum because it was so rare. Both of them were sitting outside in blizzards.
Didn’t care, it didn’t bother me because they had ceramic coatings on them. I wasn’t worried about them. Yeah.
Yeah, no, I mean I personally think if you have a ceramic coating on your car, it is equally as beneficial as parking it in the garage because it’s protected. Next up, how do you prevent water spots from ruining a finish? Or even can you? You know a ceramic coating is a way to do it, but honestly that’s kind of a myth because a ceramic coating causes water to bead, doesn’t cause the water to run off. So if you have a car that’s got a ceramic coating on it and it gets hit with a sprinkler with in an area that has really hard water and it sits in the sunlight, it’s really hot that day, water is going to bead up.
It’s going to, it’s going to, it’s going to etch the ceramic coating because it’s still going to bead and it’s going to dry and it’s going to etch what’s going to etch in the coating. So you’re going to have to cut the coating off and then refinish it and reapply it. So it’s like, you know, the best way to honestly, the answer is don’t get hard water on it.
Like don’t get, like avoid, avoid letting the car dry. That’s why whenever I like I wash a black vehicle in sunlight, I’m very focused on it because I don’t want the paint to get hard water spots on it. I want the water to dry.
So don’t let the car get hard water on it. That’s how you prevent it. What’s your signature move that clients notice and appreciate? Two of them.
Number one is how I clean wheels. Very, very, very picky with how I clean wheels. I’m sure you picked up on that.
Yep. I think, I think that you can just clean the wheels on a car, a dirty car, and it will look freshly detailed. Because with my own cars over the years, that’s all I’ve done.
Like if I took my Z06 street racing all night and I wanted to take it to cars and coffee the next morning, but I didn’t have time to spend four hours redetailing the car again, I’d clean the wheels, put tire shine on it, knock the bugs off, clean the exhaust tips, take it to cars and coffee, and it would look like it was freshly detailed, but it was actually dirty just because the wheels and tires and bugs were off of it. And those tires are clean. So there’s that.
And then honestly, my paint correction. I literally am the best paint correction specialist in Kansas City. You’re really good.
I would even say in the whole Midwest region. I think one of the best in the United States, but definitely in Kansas City. There’s a lot of guys that claim that they’re really good at paint correction.
One of them is, insert their name here, who has all of the followers on Facebook. Horrible at paint correction. Horrible.
Terrible. Terrible. So yeah, no, I am the best.
How often should you ceramic coat or wax your vehicle? Well, wax is dead. So don’t wax. I mean, wax only lasts like a couple of weeks.
A ceramic sealant, our base level package is like six months. And honestly, it’s so easy to apply. You can do it yourself.
I think it makes sense to do it every, if you’re going to do a ceramic sealant every month, even though it’s six months, why not just keep it protected constantly? It’s so easy to do. Ceramic coating, it depends on the coating. If you’re doing, if you do a nine H coating every two years, if you do a 10 H coating, they last seven to nine years.
I would do every five years just because why not?
