Tonight we’re going to be talking about the top 10 best first cars for car enthusiasts on a budget for all Kansas City Car Detailing buyers.

Thomas have you ever been on a budget looking for your first car? Lots of times. How did that process go for you? I bought the first, the first fun car that I ever bought is probably on this list, which makes me really happy about that. So I bought it.

Yeah, I’ve got some, I’ve got some guesses. What, what was your, because you flipped to get to your dream car of a Corvette when you were like 16. I did, but I had fun with everything that I bought.

So I made sure to buy stuff that if I had to drive it for six or eight months, I would enjoy it. My first flip was a 1991 Honda Civic EG hatch. It had a JDM swapped engine.

So I had a B16 swapped onto it. It was a five-speed manual. It didn’t have power steering.

It didn’t have air conditioning. It had a sunroof and manual crank windows, but it was pretty fast because it had a B16 in it, which was the NSX motor. And it had no, um, it had no electronics in it.

So it was like, there were, there were no electronic gadgets that were like pulling power from it. It was just all motor five-speed manual. I wish I still had that car.

I, I, I paid, I paid $900 for that car, which now that car would probably worth like seven or 8,000, which is hilarious. But, um, yeah. And then is that’s for car enthusiasts, right? I would imagine another one would be a Subaru Impreza WRX because they’re, you get really good power for low cost.

Um, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti, uh, Q80? Q50? I can’t remember. Um, there’s an Infiniti there. That’s like a really good cheap sports car.

They’re crappy, but they’re kind of cool. Um, and then I would even say the C5 Corvette. Yeah.

Like depending on your budget, if you’ve got 15 grand, get a nice C5 Corvette. It says these cars are chosen for fun factor, mod, potential, reliability, and affordable running costs. So let’s see.

Number one on the list. It’s the Y is it’s lightweight rear wheel drive, cheap to maintain, huge aftermarket pros, incredible handling, simple mechanics, convertible fun, cons as limited cargo space, not great in snow. Any guesses? I don’t know if you know these cars like this.

Mazda Miata. That’s right. Mazda Miata MX5 NA and B and C. Yeah.

There’s different levels to the Miata. MX5 is kind of like, like a little Corvette C5, but Miata. Yeah.

I got a lot of people tell me that if you want to learn how to drive a race car, buy a Miata because they’re like cheap. You can crash them and you can just go buy another one. They’re disposable.

They’re like really fun to drive on a track. That’s so cool. I number two, it’s reliable, tunable and fun with the high revving VTEC engine pros.

Great daily driver. Easy to mod excellent fuel economy cons front wheel drive insurance can be higher for younger drivers. My first car, Honda Civic.

I had the VTEC. I had the ultimate VTEC. Yeah.

Yeah. So there’s different VTECs that they offered in the United States, but like the holy grail VTEC is the B16, which is what came in the NSX, which is like the Honda super car. And fun fact about this Civic that I bought, I bought it from a friend of mine.

He was older. He had two of them. They were the exact same color.

They were both like this turquoise green. They’re both EG hatches. One was stock.

One had a B16 in it and he offered to sell me the stock one for 900. And his mom was like, yep, my mom’s got the title. Go to her house, pick it up.

She gave me the title and the keys to the one with the B16 in it. So after I figured that out, I drove it for a few months and then I flipped it. That’s so cool.

So he was pissed. I bet. Number three, affordable American muscle with endless parts support, powerful engines, great exhaust note, huge mod community, cons heavier than imports, fuel economy isn’t great.

Okay. It’s one of the three. It’s either a Mustang, a Camaro or a Challenger.

It’s a Mustang. It’s a Mustang. Good job.

It’s sad because I actually like Mustang. I hate the community. I hate the community of Mustangs.

But there’s certain Mustangs that I do want to own someday, but I feel very weird about that because I can’t stand the community. I do not want to be a part of the Mustang community. Not your vibe.

Not my vibe. Number four, the Y. It has all wheel drive, rally heritage, turbocharged, fun, pros, great in all weather, loads of tuning potential, cons, earlier models need careful maintenance to avoid engine issues. Yep.

Uh, Ringland failure had one Subaru Impreza WRX. Yep. That’s correct.

Had one of those. Yep. I had a 2004.

Mine was the last year of the Ringland failure issue before they fixed it in a five, but I love that car. I know you make fun of me for it, but it’s like, it’s, it’s not a typical Subaru. It’s like a Subaru sports car and they are, they’re fun.

They’re fun in the snow. Cause like it’s a little sports car with a turbo. Yeah.

You can take out in the snow. And I loved my WRX. I’d buy another one.

You’d buy another one. Uh, number five, practical hot hatch with European charm, pros, fun, turbo power, comfortable interior, hatchback, practicality, cons can have expensive maintenance if neglected. What was the first part? Practical hot hatch with European charm.

We’ve talked about this car and other podcasts today. Mini Cooper? Nope. Good guess though.

Kind of similar. Volkswagen, uh, Golf GTI. Mm-hmm.

Yep. Good job. Those are another car that I want is the R32 Golf GTI two-door.

Those are so cool. You never see them. They’re cool.

They’re cool. You’d be happy with that. Is this showing you pictures of what they look like? You would look, it’s one of those cars you would look at and be like, why is this cool? Happens a lot with you though.

Like I’m like, I don’t understand it. There’s a lot of cars that you and I are going to have sitting in our drive. Like it’s cool.

It’s rare. I mean, you see, you mentioned Subaru and present WRX. Now I want to buy one because I know they’re cheap.

You can do a lot to them to make them fast and fun. I don’t see them anymore. You don’t see the old one.

You see new ones. You don’t see the old ones.
