Hello, Kansas City, and welcome back to the Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast, your number one go-to Kansas City car detailing podcast. Now in the last episode, we broke down some of the top 10 best supercars through the eyes of an expert. Thomas Lilly works on supercars almost on a daily basis and absolutely loves what he does.

He does a ton of research and has been dedicated to his craft for, I mean, I would say almost 30 years. In your entire life, you’ve had one sole focus of learning more about cars. It’s true.

It’s a sick obsession. So in the last episode, so you have to listen to that one, we broke down the first few of our top list. So now we’re on to number seven out of 10.

What is the best supercar? The number seven would be the C6 Z06. And I know, I know. Is that a supercar? Huh? You consider that a supercar? I do.

It’ll do over 200 miles an hour. It looks really sleek, front engine, not mid engine, but it looks really good. And it is faster than the last three supercars that it is named after.

So yes, I consider a C6 Z06 a supercar. Now I’ve gotten into arguments with people, borderline, almost fistfights before over people saying it’s not a supercar. I will fight.

I’ll throw hands over that one. I owned one. I loved it.

I beat a lot of supercars that were way more expensive with very minimal work done to mine. So yes, mine may have been a freak of nature, but yeah. And then number six would be the C7 Z06.

So the, the, the newer generation. Wow. So Corvette holds two places out of 10 for you.

Actually, it’s going to hold three. I love the C7 Z06. Um, I feel like that’ll most likely be our next supercar.

Um, you know, they had some issues from the factory, but you know, if you get one with the F1X conversion. But, you know, you do the F1X conversion, which is a game-changer. And you basically fix the heat-soaking issue that they had, and you make a crap-ton of power. And, you know, one done right with the Stage 3 wicker bill, with the Z07 package, full carbon fiber… Oh.

My. God. That is a good-looking car.

Like, in yellow. I was about to say, is there a certain color? Yellow or orange. Or, there’s this really rare color, it’s like a plum-purple color.

They made very few of them in it. It looks really good. Is that the one with the metallic flakes in it? Hey, you and I have never seen one of these.

I’ve only seen one in person before. Well, there’s some car that you really like, it’s like purple, but it has some metallic-y flakes in it. I don’t know what car it is.

You mentioned, you’re like, oh man, I’d love that in purple. The thing about auto manufacturers is they all have their own different version of a color. So, like, you know, I love Miami Blue, right? Miami Blue is only a Porsche color.

They don’t offer it in any other color. Now, on the Corvette, they make, on the C6 Z06, they make Jetstream Blue. It’s a different color of blue than Miami Blue, you know, than Lamborghini has their own special blue.

So they all have, like, every car manufacturer has their own different version of a color. But, then number five would be the C8 Z06. That’s a supercar.

Undoubtedly, a C8 Z06 is a supercar. It’s got the flat-plane crank V8, so it winds up and it sounds just like a Lamborghini or a Ferrari when it revs out because of the flat-plane crank. And it’s got such a strong power band, and it just looks like a supercar.

I mean, it beats supercars, so it is 100% a supercar. Number four, one of my all-time favorite cars, would be the McLaren 675LT. To me, that’s one of the best-looking cars ever made.

And that is one, I saw one in Denver one time, and it was purple, but it had green accents. So it had a lime green interior. It had lime green calipers.

I bet you enjoyed that. When I saw that car, I was like, that is yes. And I was actually racing at a half-mile event, and I watched that car run.

And this dude had very minimal work done to it, and it was making well over 1,000 horsepower. And it was just like the sound, that car had so much raw torque standing behind it. When he took off, you could literally feel your chest vibrating.

And I was like, that is what I want when I grow up. Number, what are we on, number three? Number three, yeah. Number three would be the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, Superveloce Giotta.

I was thinking you were going to say that one. I love that car. I mean, that is like the, in my opinion, that’s like the last raw Italian, well it is.

The Aventador is the last all-motor V12 Italian Lamborghini, because after that, they switched to a hybrid with the Rivalto. So, definitely an Aventador SVJ. A car sounds like, it literally sounds like an F1 car.

And 850 horsepower out of the box, out of a naturally aspirated V12, is just dumb. It’s just stupid, and I love it. And that’s one of my dream cars.

Number two, for me, would also be a Lamborghini. It would be the Lamborghini Murcielago Superveloce. And it would have to be in a gated six-speed manual, because that was the last manual V12 that Lamborghini ever built.

And, you know, in my mind, when I think of a Lamborghini, I don’t think of something that was made in a clean factory with, you know, because that’s not Lamborghini. Lamborghini is, you had some guy smoking a cigarette while he’s putting your interior together, and he’s waiting for 5 o’clock to roll around so he can go to the pub and get trashed. To me, that’s Lamborghini.

It is just raw Italian energy. And so when Audi really ramped up their management of Lamborghini, and they made it more of a status symbol, it lost that. So for me, that last true, in-your-face, Italian raw supercar is the Murcielago Superveloce in a six-speed manual.

The sounds, you know, you’ve never been in before, but it’s just, it hits differently when you hear a gated manual transmission shifting. I mean, you feel like you’re in Italy. And it’s kind of like, that’s like the car equivalent to, like, Venice.

Yeah. And I’ve driven a Murcielago. It wasn’t a Superveloce, but it was an LP640.

And it had the gated six-speed manual. And I mean, I actually have a video of me street racing that car. Really? I was driving it.

Great car. And then, say that’s number two. Number one, no, that’s number three.

That was number two. That was number two. Number one, for me, would be the Porsche 911 991 GT2 RS with the Wacic package.

That car, so Porsche’s hypercar was the 918 Spyder. It was like a $2 million car. And then the step down was the 911 GT2 RS.

And Porsche had to discontinue it. Because it was faster than their $2 million car. They had to quit making it because it made them look bad, you know? Yeah.

So, I mean, I’ve also driven one. Never experienced anything like it. You know, they only make 700 horsepower, which doesn’t sound like a lot.

Because for a mid-engine car or a front-engine car, 700 horsepower isn’t a lot. When you’re talking Porsche power, their weight distribution and the way the car is set up, 700 horsepower on a Porsche 911 feels like 1,300 horsepower on a front-engine car. It’s a totally different feeling.

And that’s why people say, oh, you know, Porsche 911s are slow because they don’t have a lot of power. It’s like, well, no, you’re probably an idiot because you don’t understand how physics works. And the 911 was a car that completely changed the law of physics for sports cars.

They put the engine—do you know where the engine is in a Porsche 911? No. It’s literally right next to the license plate. Oh, wow.

Like, if you take the back bumper off, that’s where the engine is. Wow. So it changed the physics of a sports car.

And putting the engine in the back, what do you think about it? Is it easier for you to pull something or push something? Pull. Pull. Well, so you think about it.

Like, the engine, all the weight’s in the back. There’s no weight in the front, so you feel like you’re being pushed. It’s hard to explain.

Yeah. But that car, nothing like it. I will throw hands with anyone who says that’s not one of the best supercars ever.
