Hello Kansas City and welcome back to Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast, the number one Kansas City car detailing podcast. We are so glad that you joined us tonight. We have Thomas Till, the founder of Bespoke Automotive Refinement and truly the one who knows more about Kansas City car detailing services and packages than anybody else.
Thank you Thomas for joining us. Thank you so much for having me on. I just love coming on here and talking about all of our different Kansas City car detailing services and packages that we have to offer the Kansas City area.
So those of you that are looking to travel this summer, you wanted to go on a road trip, maybe you wanted to do something for spring break and you’re looking for what would be the best road trip car. Now in a previous podcast we talked about what would be the best cars to take on a road trip across Europe. My goal is to go through Ireland, but what if you’re staying domestic and you just want to travel, maybe just to California, maybe you want to travel to Florida, maybe you want to go to New York, maybe you just want to go and see South Dakota.
Whatever it is that you are doing, we’re going to go through some of the best cars to take a road trip in the United States for. Now Thomas, you probably have a thousand and one cars in your mind for ones that you want to own, ones you want to go on road trips. If you were to travel from here to California, what would be just some of the best cars that you would like to take? I have four on my mind.
So the number one would actually be a Jeep Wrangler. I think that they’re awesome for highway driving and then if you want to go off the beaten path, if you find a mountainous road that you want to go down that you know is rugged and you need an all-terrain vehicle, I think a Jeep Wrangler can go about anywhere. So that’s one that’s on my list.
You can take the top off and you can cruise along the beach. I just think that’s an amazing vehicle. I also think the Toyota Tacoma is a great vehicle for traveling cross-country.
Same with the Jeep. You can take a Toyota Tacoma about anywhere. They’re really reliable.
They get good gas mileage and I used to have a Tacoma SR5 and I loved it. Another one on my list would be a C8 Corvette. I think they have enough room.
You can pack small luggage. Again, definitely not enough for your bags. You’d have to pack light.
But there’s so many amazing roads in the United States that having a mid-engine supercar to hit windy curvy roads and just have a lot of power and have a lot of fun. You can take the top off and cruise along the beach. I just think that’s a great car.
So those are the three in my mind. On this list, this is from Cars from the U.S. dot News World Report under the section Cars. They list the top best road trip cars in 2024 and 2025.
Number one on their list, they have the 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV. Mazdas are very unique. I’ve never owned a Mazda but I know that people that do own Mazdas are very enthusiastic about them like Jeeps and other vehicles.
I know they can be very reliable. I also know they can be very unreliable. My sister has a CX-7 or had a CX-70 and I know she put almost 100,000 miles on it.
So I know she had a lot of luck with hers. Number two on the list, we have the 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid. Now my only concern with hybrids is I know somebody that went from California to the Midwest in a hybrid and when you’re on those roads there are like two hours between stops, they almost ran out of electric power in their car.
So my only thought with the hybrid is making sure that if your car was solely electric, the hybrid’s okay because you can have both, but a solely electric car, would that concern you with driving electric across the country? It would. One of my Kansas City car detailing clients, he’s one of the hosts of the Car Trek TV show, Tyler Hoover, and they did a segment where they found the best sedan to travel cross-country in. He used a Tesla Model 3 and he wasn’t able to complete it.
He actually ended up stranded because he didn’t make it to the next location to charge. So yeah, I’m not a big hybrid guy. What are your thoughts on a Honda? Hondas are great cars.
They go forever. Next up we have a Chevrolet Suburban. No qualms with a Suburban.
I think that they’re awesome SUVs. I know they don’t really get the best gas mileage. I also know that they’re really not the best off-road, but you know I think if you’re staying on the paved roads across America, I think definitely have enough space for luggage.
Yes, you definitely have enough room on that one. Number five, we have a Volkswagen Atlas. That’s what my sister just bought.
I spent about 30 minutes riding in hers the other day and I think they’re really nice. They’re really comfortable. They have a lot of really awesome creature comforts that you see in a luxury brand like Porsche or Audi.
So I think the Atlas is an amazing vehicle. And next up we have a Kia Carnival. It looks pretty big.
Kia’s really up their game. You know, I remember Kia being a brand that was kind of cheap and not really one that you would think when you thought luxury, you thought of Kia. But I traded my Z06 in for a Kia Stinger GT2 actually.
I test drove it on a whim and I came really close to trading my Z06 in on a Kia. Wow, that’s saying a lot because you’re a big fan of a C6 Z06. And that’s what I was going to trade in on it.
Next up we have just a 2025 Ford Mustang. I don’t know why I didn’t think of the Mustang. The Mustang’s like one of the most American things you can drive.
I mean it’s big body, big power. It’s just a muscle, just a great muscle car. I grew up with Mustangs.
My dad had a couple Mustangs. My grandpa had a couple Mustangs. So yeah, big fan of the Mustang.
Next up we have the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. You got a minivan in there. I’m not a minivan guy, but my grandpa used to do a lot of road tripping and he bought a Pacifica specifically for road trips.
And he actually drove from the middle of Kansas to Anchorage, Alaska in a Pacifica. And he ended up on a lot of roads that were very rugged. There’s not a direct highway from the United States to Anchorage.
So um he made it well and he fell in love with it and he owned two more after that. So that’s saying a lot. There’s something for the Pacifica.
I would definitely say minivans are not the typical wow kind of car. But man if you’re driving across the country, all that room, all the extra USB plugins and everything else that comes with the minivan, it’s nice. There’s something to it.
Next up we have a 2024 Tesla Model 3. Those don’t exist. Let’s skip the next one. All right next up we have a 2025 Honda Civic.
I’ve owned a lot of Honda Civics in my life and I will probably own more in my life. I think they’re great cars. I think they run forever.
I think that they’re not the most luxurious vehicle, but you never have to worry when you get in a Honda. You can get in a Honda Civic from the 90s with 300,000 miles on it and feel safe driving it cross-country. Next up we have a 2024 Lincoln Navigator.
I love Lincoln Navigators. There was a movie that came out in the early 2000s. It was like a family road trip movie and the guy got a Lincoln Navigator, had spinner rims put on it, and they traveled cross-country in it.
Ice Cube was one of the main actors. I don’t remember the name of the movie, but those are great cars. They’re awesome.
Next up we have a 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. I don’t know a whole lot about Hyundai to really speak on it. I know that their Genesis brand is pretty awesome, but I don’t know a whole lot about Hyundai themselves.
2025 Ram 1500. I don’t know why they were on that list. I’ve had a couple Dodge Rams in my life and they aren’t the smoothest riding trucks ever.
Your dad’s got that lifted F-250 and lifted trucks generally aren’t known for having a great ride. His truck, which does have a rough ride because it’s lifted, has a better ride than a stock Ram. Last up on the list we have a 2024 Genesis G90.
I like Genesis as a brand. I think that they’ve really upped their game since they created that line and I think they’re awesome cars.
