Hello Kansas City and welcome back to the Spoke Automotive Refinement podcast. Hello! We are so glad you joined us on this wonderful amazing fall night. We’re actually sitting out here by a fire with our doggies running around the backyard just enjoying some time talking about cars.
I mean this is like our own little version of a date night. It’s true. Talking about cars.
Yeah it’s pretty cool. Well something that if you’ve listened to anything about our podcast or if you’ve talked to Thomas more than two seconds, you know that his absolute favorite car is a Corvette. I have a little nephew that’s three years old and literally his favorite things are Corvettes and that came from Uncle Thomas.
So we’re breaking down tonight some new information that Thomas has received about Corvettes. But before we start, Thomas can you tell them number one what is it that you like about Corvettes and then kind of break down what are the different types and kinds of Corvettes? Well first of all I like the Corvette because it’s an American-made supercar and there’s different variants, there’s different categories. You know you’ve got the base model which is really just like an entry-level sports car and then you’ve got you go all the way up to the ZR1 which is a supercar killer and then you’ve got the Z06 it’s a supercar.
So I like Corvettes because they’re an inexpensive way to go fast at an expensive level and nothing made me happier when I owned my Z06 than beating a guy who paid $400,000 for a Lamborghini and my car that knew was less than $120,000. Like the look that they had of like I spent all this money and I just got beat by a Corvette like I love that. So when the C8 came out and they released the Z06 they released at the exact same time a car called the E-Ray and the E-Ray was taking a lot of flack on the internet.
You know guys were like what a waste, why would Chevy do this? Well you hear E-Ray, you think electric. I thought that the E-Ray was kind of like Chevy’s way of making like a grand sport in the C8 where they did like the wide body but it was kind of like virtue signaling where instead of doing you know a base model engine in a wide body they just did an electric engine. That’s what I thought it was so I never dove into it.
Well I was scrolling on, I couldn’t sleep last night, so I was scrolling on YouTube and I come across this video of a C8 E-Ray that went 9.36 in the quarter mile. Now Avery, I don’t know if you know like quarter mile times you probably don’t but my Z06 that I had went 11 seconds in the quarter mile. The Bugatti Veyron which was the fastest car in the world when it came out went 10s.
Okay. So this E-Ray going low nines is like crazy that a Corvette’s doing that and it was an E-Ray. I thought okay well how are they modifying an electric car to go faster because like you know with a gas engine you can do all these things like you know you can change the headers, you can change the cam, tune it.
You can’t really do anything aftermarket to an electric car because it’s like you can’t tune an electric engine. So I click on this video and I immediately see the back end of a C8 Corvette and it’s wide-bodied like a Z06 because the Z06 and the E-Ray both have that wider body style. But I see turbos where the diffuser used to be and I immediately like this is like you know 1am in the morning and I’m like kind of half asleep and I’m like they lied that’s not an E-Ray that’s a Z06 with turbos.
And then I like turned up the video and I could hear the turbo spool but it wasn’t a Z06 spooling because I didn’t hear the flat plane crank engine I just heard an LT2 and I was like okay. So then I go online and come to find out the E-Ray is not an electric car it’s actually a hypercar. So it’s got a LT2 which is the factory engine from a Stingray and it has an electric motor but it’s not like your jeep where like you know it’s got a tiny electric motor that runs either or.
This electric motor works in unison with the gas engine and this car creates a ton of power. It is faster in a 0-60, 0-120, quarter mile and top speed than a Z06. Wow.
And the whole time like I actually made a Facebook post when the E-Ray came out I was like this is a disgrace. I didn’t even know what it was. I didn’t do my due diligence.
I’m like it’s just an electric Corvette. What’s crazy is it’s all-wheel drive. You know what that means? That means you can drive this thing in the snow.
Whoa. Like it’s a car that you can it’s like a one car solution. So I went down the rabbit hole of like looking up you know turbo kits.
You can get a turbo kit for about 10 grand and what’s crazy is a twin turbo E-Ray is essentially the new ZR1X. That’s exactly what it is. The new ZR1X it’s like $500,000 is literally an E-Ray with a wider body with turbos.
So here’s the catch. The E-Ray is cheaper than the Z06. No way.
Because everyone heard about the E-Ray and thought E-Ray that sounds electric. I don’t want an electric car. They stopped there.
No one cared about the E-Ray. Everyone bought the Z06. Yeah.
The Z06 is slower. So then I go on and I look up drag races between supercars. Yeah.
The SF90XX that was on the Ferrari rally we were on. The one with the white and the gold trim. Yep.
An E-Ray with turbos annihilates that car. Really? Stock for stock they’re almost identically like power wise. Wow.
That’s a two million dollar car. That’s a hundred and ten thousand dollar car. Wow.
So I’m like I want an E-Ray now. So that’s what I had to report. Okay.
That’s huge. I was wrong. Yeah.
I thought that the E-Ray was just a virtue signaling like honestly every time I saw an E-Ray I was disappointed and I’ve seen plenty I’m running around. I’ll be like that’s a Z06. I’m like oh no.
But it’s literally faster and cooler than a Z06. Which is wild to hear you even say. Well it’s it makes more power and it’s all it’s an all-wheel drive.
Yeah. Hyper car corvette. That’s crazy.
That is crazy. So. So what kind of Kansas City car detailing services and Kansas City car detailing packages would you offer somebody that was wanting their corvette to be worked on by one of Kansas City car detailing experts? Well think about corvettes.
Is they have a lot of orange peel from the factory. Because they have to the way they lay paint on fiberglass and carbon fiber they gotta spray it on really thick. One of the reasons that corvettes are cheaper than Ferraris and Porsches and Lamborghinis are they like they cut corners.
They don’t cut corners but like they they cut out certain things other manufacturers don’t. So like Ferrari hand finishes their cars. Lamborghini hand finishes their cars.
Corvette just sprays them sends them out the door. I recommend a full paint correction right off the showroom floor. Car will look 10 times better.
A lot smoother. It’ll set it apart from any other. If you have the exact same corvette and you park it next to someone but yours is paint corrected and theirs isn’t.
Your car will look like it has a completely different paint job. Wow. Which is crazy but it’s the truth.
