Hello, Kansas City area. We are so glad that you joined us today. We’re actually in the process of driving right now and the vehicle that we’re driving in has not yet been ceramic coated on the glass windshield.

Thomas, what is something that’s happening right now that if somebody had their car ceramic coated by you, would they not be experiencing what we’re currently experiencing? Well, I’ll tell you. So, none of the vehicles that I own do I actually use the windshield wipers. Wow.

Like, this honestly feels weird. We’re driving, you’re cheap, and in the rain, and I have the windshield wipers on, and because there is no hydrophobic coating on the paint, there’s really no hydrophobic properties on the glass, the water isn’t beating up. It’s just sticking to the glass.

So, we offer many different ceramic coating packages with our Kansas City Car Detailing Services, and one of the things that we offer is ceramic coating glass. Ceramic coating glass is gonna help during the wintertime with ice sticking to the glass. It’s not gonna prevent your windshield from freezing, but it’s gonna allow the surface to repel the ice.

It’s not gonna stick to it as much. It’s gonna be more like scraping off slush come wintertime versus scraping off hard ice. And, when you’re in the middle of a rainstorm like we are right now, you don’t have to have your windshield wipers on.

You just, the water literally just runs right off. I remember the first time we drove my Jeep and it rained, and you were not turning on the windshield wipers, and it was driving me nuts. I would lean over and turn them on, and I was like, why are you not turning the windshield wipers on? And you were like, I’m just not used to it.

I’ve never had a car as an adult that needed windshield wipers, which is a mind-blowing concept for me because I didn’t even know that that was a service to even be offered. Yeah, you know, it’s something that I kind of discovered by accident. When I began ceramic coating cars, this would have been over 10 years ago, I was ceramic coating everything, and I still do.

So, a lot of other detail shops that ceramic coat a vehicle, they just do the paint. And, I’ve always been a little bit of an experimental person, so I just coated the whole thing. I coated the wheels, I coated the trim, I coated door handles, and I coated the glass.

And, you know, they say the plumber’s pipes are usually clogged. Well, the detailer’s car is usually dirty. So, when I finally came around to ceramic coating my own car, I ceramic coated the glass, and I quickly realized that there’s a huge benefit to it.

You don’t have water sticking to the glass, you don’t have ice sticking to the glass, but better than that, when you’re in the middle of a road trip during the summer, and you have bugs. Oh
my goodness, the bugs! You hate the windshield. Especially being in the Kansas, Missouri area, there are a lot.
And, it’s nighttime, and you got your headlights on, and you know, you can’t see the bugs. You know, normally you have to pull over to a gas station and squeegee the glass off. If your glass is ceramic coated, you can hit your wash fluid windshield wiper and wash the fluid on your car.

It literally takes the bugs right off. The ceramic coating helped. The other day, I was driving with my mom in their car, and we were behind like a construction cart, and on the highway, and one of the rock chips from the construction truck hit the windshield and cracked it.

The ceramic coating, or is there anything that can protect the glass, or just gives it another layer of protection? No. Ceramic coating doesn’t prevent rock chipping. It does prevent sandblasting.
So, there’s a difference between rock chipping and sandblasting. So, sandblasting is tons of tiny, tiny little rocks, and you can’t really hear hitting your paint, but they are. It’ll prevent that.

Okay. And it’ll prevent road rash, but it won’t prevent a rock the size of a dime or a penny cracking your windshield. There’s a product called GlassParency that you can apply to your glass that copes with that a lot, but it doesn’t prevent rock chipping.

Now, there are different kinds of ceramic coating and sealants. Can you tell us a little bit about what Bespoke Automotive Refinement offers? We have Kansas City car detailing packages. Sure.

So, when it comes to sealants, it’s a very broad term. The idea is, you always want to have something on your paint that protects it from UV rays from the sun, and protects it from chemical etchings, bug etchings, and stains, and iron. And the big thing with sealants is, they actually stay on longer than wax.

So, you know, everyone’s heard of waxing a car. The thing about waxing a car is, wax washes off. Because wax is a… it attaches to the static on top of the clear coat of your vehicle, it doesn’t actually attach and bond to the clear coat itself.

So, after the vehicle gets wet once or twice, the wax is gone. A sealant, on the other hand, works its way into the clear coat itself, so it works underneath the static, and it stays on longer. But over time, it can be washed off.

But a true ceramic coating, it bonds to the pores of the clear coat, and then when the clear coat pores are sealed, that coating’s on there for good. So, you know, for instance, I was ceramic coating a jet. I was ceramic coating a jet last week, and there was a spot on the door that wasn’t properly level.

And this led to a high spot in the coating. When I came and looked at the coating the next day, there was basically what looked like a rainbow effect on the door of this jet, and I couldn’t rub it off. I couldn’t wipe it off.
I actually took mineral spirits and tried rubbing it off, and that didn’t take it off. I had to compound it and then polish it back out to actually get the coating off. So, wax washes off after it gets wet a couple times.

Ceramic coating, you have to literally buff it out with very gritty compounds. Sometimes you have to wet sand it out.
