I don’t think… Thomas, have you once in your entire life ever been tired when talking about cars or when talking about Kansas City Car Detailing? Never. And look at what we’re doing right now. It’s 11 o’clock on a Friday night and we’re talking about cars.

This is pretty cool. It’s a good life. I’m enjoying the hell out of it.

Are you enjoying it? Today we’re going to be talking about the lifestyle and the culture of the car community. Now, how long have you enjoyed cars? Since I was a little kid, but I would say I joined the car community when I was really in-depth when I was 16, 17. Yeah.

And have you noticed, what are some of the different types of car communities? You probably have more of a posh-y style. You’ve got a lot. Growing up where I grew up, in a small town where I had the only… I was really the only one bringing cars from out of town.

Most people were just trading cars within the community. In small town USA, where there’re no cities around, you’ve got people that drive cars that are just whatever. You’ve got guys showing up with their pickup trucks.

You’ve got guys showing up with their Mustangs, Honda Civics, everything. And then in the street racing community, which is what I found myself into, everyone’s their own version of an outlaw. Everyone’s willing to run from the cops.

They carry guns on them. You’ve got guys that are drug dealers who are street racers. You’ve got guys that are multimillionaire businessman, all coming together, all having a relationship.

It’s really the only place that you can have a guy who is a drug dealer and a guy who’s running a $40 million company, literally in the same setting. That’s what I enjoyed about street racing. And then you’ve also got the upper end, Ferrari clubs, Lamborghini clubs.

And then you have these exotic car clubs that are very posh. These are guys that’ll park their exotic cars out in front of the yacht clubs and they’ll park their Lamborghinis on their yacht. Very high class type stuff.

And it’s cool because some of those guys do street races, which is kind of interesting. That is interesting. So that’s really more like a European thing than it is in the States.

And then you’ve got your import scene, guys that are putting cars on airbags and dropping them to the ground. I’ve never really had any interest in that. I’ve had no interest in that, but there’s different levels to it too.

The guys that like slamming their cars and putting these weird body kits on Volkswagen Jettas, those are also the guys that are going to be into anime. Those are also the guys that are going to be very LGBTQ versus street racers. The crowd that I hung out with, they were very conservative minded, so very different.

Something that you and I have done a couple times, I’m sure you want to do even more of it when we get a fast car again. What are some of the best roads either in Kansas City or just even in this general region that you could drive to in the next five hours? What are some great roads for somebody to drive a fast car on? Honestly, there was that road that you and I took to Branson the other day. A lot of curves.

That was south of Clinton, Missouri. The best one close to us is definitely the Pig Trail. The Pig Trail runs through, I can’t remember the name of the highway, but it runs from Eureka Springs, Arkansas all the way down to Quinn Wilhelmina.

That has the best views, that has the best apex corners, zigzag roads. It’s got these crazy zigzag roads. Definitely the Pig Trail, but really anything in Arkansas.

Where I grew up, all of the country roads were on a grid pattern. You didn’t have any twisty running roads in Great Bend? Especially in western Kansas, everything was just flat. There were no curves, there were no twists in the roads.

Living here is very different in that way. Even the road you and I took to Branson the other day, I don’t think I ever saw a road like that until I was 24 years old. Makes total sense.

You don’t really see a lot of twists and curves and hills. Next question. Why is it important in the car community to keep your car clean? That’s a really good question.

Showing up at a car meet with a dirty car is like showing up to the club in the same clothes that you wore at work if you’re working in a construction job. If you’re going out to a nice dinner, it’s like showing up at a nice dinner wearing the dirty clothes that you’ve been mowing the lawn in all day. It’s not socially okay.

So whenever someone shows up at a car meet and their car is dirty, typically people don’t talk to them because they think that it’s just some person who bought a car and they don’t want to stick to someone that doesn’t really know a whole lot about cars. No yawning. Why does regularly detailing your car actually save you money in the long run? Oh, so this is actually a really good question.

If you don’t keep your car waxed, if you don’t keep your car, let’s say you just don’t even wash your car, and you get birds that poop on it, you get bug gut etchings in the front end of it, and you get all this salt that sticks to it from the wintery roads, um, eventually you are going to have a car that has, for one, the paint and the body panels begin to rust if you get salt that sticks on it for too long. The bug guy etchings will stain the front end of your car. The bird poop etchings will put spots in the paint.

So, you know, you’re going to end up with a vehicle that’s going to need thousands of dollars of paint repair if you don’t keep it regularly cleaned and then obviously putting some sort of protectant like ceramic coating or wax or really anything that just keeps it preserved. Yeah. Very important.
