We just love coming on every week and talking cars, talking detailing, talking Kansas City car detailing. I don’t know if you know this or not about me or not, but I am a huge car guy. So everything cars, I am all about it.
So, well guys, tonight we’re gonna be talking about a couple of my favorite cars, a couple of my dream cars. You know, these are cars that I’ve had on my radar for a while, just love the styling, love the engines. We’re just gonna talk about the pros and cons of all of them.
So to start off, the Porsche 996 911 Turbo. So I’ve been a 911 Turbo fan for, gosh, it’s been probably eight years since I really became a 911 Turbo guy. You know, prior to that, I didn’t really know Porsche.
I didn’t really know how much, you know, money they were worth. I didn’t know, I didn’t know specs. I didn’t know anything.
And kind of interesting, because it was actually, it would have been about eight years ago on the dot coming up, wow. So I was working, I just dropped out of college and I was working at Costco. I was doing, at the time, washing dishes and then they had me on cart duty.
So I’d run out to the parking lot and grab all the carts and bring them back in. And I remember I was out in the parking lot and I see a 2000, it was either an 02, 03, or 04. It wasn’t an 05, but it was an 02 to an 04, black Porsche 911 Turbo.
And a guy driving it was probably like in his early 30s. Yeah, he looked well dressed. It was winter time, you know, there was some snow on the ground.
And I know that the 911 Turbo’s like a great daily driver, winter driver. And I just, I remember looking at that car thinking like, that is it, you know. I knew they weren’t crazy expensive.
Obviously they’ve gone up since, but I knew they weren’t crazy expensive, but they are such a good looking car and they’re very usable. So I have a car on my radar right now as far as what I’m saving for, shooting for, is a speed yellow Porsche 911 Turbo. And I would wanna do the tech art body kit.
So not the whole wing, but the front bumper, side skirts, on a set of really nice forged wheels, I think would just look stellar, you know. Yellow paint, yellow interior accents, like seat belts, yellow cage, or yellow half cage. You know, I just, I think that is one of my like dream cars.
And because, you know, at that moment I was homeless, I didn’t have two pennies to rub together. And seeing a guy that didn’t seem like much older than me at the time was just getting to enjoy a really cool car. So, and it’s really cool because over the years, not only have I been able to, you know, grow my family’s income with the Kansas City car detailing business, but also I’ve gotten to work on a lot of Porsche 911 Turbos.
I’ve done a lot of 996s, done a lot of 991s. So getting to perform these Kansas City car detailing services on these cars is just really cool experience. Next on the list for me would be a C7 Z06-Z07.
Also in yellow. It would also have to be a yellow car. I love yellow.
I don’t think all cars look good in yellow. I think some do. And, you know, between the 996 911 Turbo and the C7 Z06-Z07 is that exception.
So when I was 21, this is after the 911 Turbo moment, I ended up getting a job managing the detailing department at a Chevy dealership. And we had gotten in, we’d gotten in a few C7 Z06s, but as detailers, we typically didn’t drive the cars. You know, this was more take them from the new to like where they unloaded the cars to detail bay and then order comes and picks them up.
So, yeah, I really wasn’t, I’d never driven one, been up close to them and I loved the way they looked, but I was working on a Saturday and Saturdays were kind of days where we just screwed off. You know, I’d hang up on the service drive and, you know, BS with the service managers. And it was just, it was, it was a good, it was, it was a good slow Saturday.
And this guy pulls in and it was a yellow C7 Z06-Z07. So it had the Z07 package. And I’ll never forget that guy.
I’m like, that is the best looking car in that color ever. It was the first time I’d ever seen a yellow one in person. And my buddy who was the service manager, there was the only service manager there that day, said, he said, run that thing up the street and get gas in it and bring it back for me.
Now at this point, I’m 20 years old. You know, I say I’m 21 years old. I’ve got a supercharged C5 Z06.
So I’m pretty good with a, you know, boosted Corvette. And I wasn’t, you know, a stock C7 Z06 wasn’t gonna wow me on power, but I remember getting in this car and driving it. And I romped on it pretty good.
And it just felt so good. It was very, very rigid, very tight. Nothing felt loose or wobbly or fragile.
The car did not feel fragile. It felt very stable. And so I remember that was kind of, that was another moment for me where I’m like, this is a car that someday I would love to have.
And I’ve already kind of built that car out in my head too. You know, yellow on yellow with, I think the machined silver C7 Z06 wheels just make that car look, you don’t even have to do anything to that car to make it look good. I mean, it just looks so good from the factory.
But what’s really cool about the C7 Z06 is as I built up the Kansas City car detailing business, I’ve gotten to drive a couple of them and work on tons of C7 Z06s. And, you know, also been able to make that yellow paint on a few C7 Z06s look really good.
