Hey guys, welcome back to Bespoke Automotive Refinement Podcast, the Kansas City auto detailing service that tailors to all of your detailing needs. So I’ve had a lot of people ask me in the past, Thomas, why do your wheels look so good? I am a big wheels guy. In fact, I believe that when you’re doing any detail work on a car, when you’re modifying any car, the thing that truly sets the car apart from any other one is the wheels.
You know, I told my girlfriend recently, the next car I buy, because we haven’t been together whenever I’ve purchased a supercar, the first thing I do when I buy a sports car or a supercar is I change the wheels. Because changing the wheels sets the car differently. It looks personalized.
It looks different. It looks, depending on what wheels you go with, you know, if you’re an import guy, put Volk TE37s on it to give it that true JDM look. If you’re a European spec guy, you put Vossen wheels, or you put Rotiforms, or if you’re like me, an American sports car guy, a big Corvette guy, I always go with the HRE wheels, OE wheels, and that personalizes the car and it sets it apart from any factory Corvette.
So in my life, all the different cars I’ve owned, the thing that I’ve always used to make the car my own are the wheels. Well, if the wheels are dirty, if the wheels are covered in road grime, if the wheels look dull, what’s the point in spending the extra money on aftermarket wheels? So today we’re going to talk about the importance of keeping your wheels clean, whether it’s a show car, whether it’s a track car, a weekend warrior, or if even if it’s a daily driver that you want to keep perfected, you want to keep it clean, you want to roll up in the parking lot at work, and you want people staring at your car. We offer so many different Kansas City auto detailing packages, it’s overwhelming.
One thing that I offer on every one of our packages is a wheel and tire deep clean. I do this because I’m passionate about wheels. I’m passionate about wheels and tires.
If you’re a big lifted truck guy, I always try to clean the exposed chassis and coat it so it looks glossy and black again. So today I’m going to be offering the secret to cleaning wheels. So if you’re listening to this, you’re going to get my secret.
The first thing I do when I’m doing a Kansas City auto detailing package and I’m focusing on your wheels is I’m going to hook up my pressure washer. My pressure washer that I use for my Kansas City auto detailing services is a short gun. I don’t have a long hose.
I have a short one so I can get it close to the wheel. I can stick it inside the spoke and I can clean the barrel of the wheel. First thing, pressure wash the wheel, the tire, and the wheel well.
You want to knock out any loose dirt, loose road grime, just go to town on that thing. And
you really want to work as best as you can on getting any loose dirt off because the next step. So the next step is to use iron remover or an acidic wheel cleaner on the wheel.
I spray it on there. I spray it on the wheel face. I spray it on the wheel barrel.
And then I’m going to take a tire and rubber cleaner, spray it on the tires. We’re going to use some degreaser. We’re going to spray some degreaser in the wheel wells.
And then we’re going to let that soak for about three to four minutes. And in that three to four minutes, you’re going to see the wheels turning purple because that brake dust is being broken down and you’re going to see the wheels start to turn brown because that tire and rubber cleaner is breaking down that road grime stuck to the walls of your wheels. Next, you’re going to get your brush and you’re going to brush the wheel barrels.
We have different brushes that we use. I have a longer one that I make sure I scrub the wheel barrels all the way around. And then I have a fine paint brush that I use to clean the spokes of the wheels and the lug nuts of the wheels.
Lastly, we’re going to take a big brush and we’re going to get the majority of the wheel face. After that, we’re going to take a thicker bristle brush, clean the tires, scrub the wheel wells. Once all of this is done, we’re going to hit that with a foam cannon.
Now that foam cannon is going to help lift the dirt up. It’s going to keep it moisturized. And then if it’s really dirty, if it’s excessively dirty, I repeat this process.
Hit it with that iron remover again. Hit it with the wheel and tire cleaner again. And hit the wheel wells with the degreaser.
Repeat this process until those wheels look perfect. Now guys, this is just one of the many Kansas City Auto Detailing services that we offer.
